Fantasy Faire 2013 – Dwarfins Introduction

I’ve blogged about Dwarfins before, indeed I own Dwarfins. As part of my Fantasy Faire 2013 assigned missions, I’ve been asked to blog some more about Dwarfins and this was a welcome task, and not just because they’re releasing wizard avatars and Dwarfins at Fantasy Faire 2013 but that sure helps!

The first thing to remember here is that as well as being a great event for the fantasy community in Second Life, Fantasy Faire is also part of the relay for life fundraising effort. Judy Chestnut explains why this is important for her:

I have lost a lot of people close to me that were much too young. In particular my mother who was only 48 when she found out she had breast cancer and 50 when she lost her fight. She participated in a clinical trial after she was diagnosed, for a drug that is now widely used and helping other women. My uncle who passed away from brain cancer at the age of 50, was misdiagnosed for 2 years before they correctly diagnosed him. My sister in law who passed away at the age of 36 from breast cancer, her cancer had spread to her brain and had not been found there until it was too late.

Research, diagnostic training for doctors, support for survivors and caregivers and the fight for one more birthday, because by that next birthday, there may be a cure. Those are the reasons that I support relay for life.

Dwarfins is a breedables venture in Second Life, where you breed, well Dwarfins! They create birthrocks together that have traits when they are birthed and of course, some traits are more valuable than others. These traits have the potential to be passed on to their offsprings. Jaimy Hancroft, artist for Dwarfins has created some pictures to advertise some of the features of Dwarfins.

Dwarfins also have interactive items, they like a drink that’s for sure!

The Dwarfins also like to build and in an interesting concept, you can buy an item that the Dwarfins will then carve into another structure, there’s a hut that they make inhabitable over the course of a few days by interactively shaping it.

So who are the people behind Dwarfins? Judy Chestnut provides us with some information:

There are 3 of us on the Dwarfins creative team, myself (Judy Chestnut) I am the project manager and game designer, Dante Spectre is the scripter as well as contributing some artwork (mesh and sculpts), Jaimy Hancroft is the artist and is responsible for the Dwarfins themselves, all of their textures, sculpts, mesh, as well as any other artwork we need as well as sim design. Jaimy has created some beautiful pictures featuring the dwarfins for our display at the faire and I have included them below.

We also have a wonderful group of people that work with the players and customers and we would really be lost without them. OlgaRockbeard is the Manager of the Dwarfins and oversees all aspects of the Dwarfins relating to customer service and has been with us since we began beta in SL, she has also become a very dear friend. BruenorRockbeard is a wonderful CSR that has been with us almost from launch, he helps both our english and german players. RoryRockbeard provides comic relief for us whenever he is around, he is also a great CSR. MarraRockbeard is our newest CSR and I think we all love her sweetness, even if she is a bit clumsy when running for muffins.

The Dwarfins officially arrived in Second Life on December 8th 2012 and they also have a storyline, which is tale of skulduggery and betrayal that led to banishment for a the god Andronicus and Dwarfins being banished to a cave, but now they’ve escaped those confines and making a new life for themselves. The story can be read here: http://www.dwarfins.com/story/

The story isn’t finished and neither is the evolution of Dwarfins. Currently they have mining and reading skills but in the future there are plans to introduce fishing and gardening. The ever resourceful Jaimy Hancroft has created a picture of how Dwarfins may look when they are gardening:
