Fantasy Faire 2013 Starts Tomorrow

FF2013 Poster [Fairies]

Fantasy Faire 2013 will officially open its doors tomorrow, although I may know a route through a secret passageway hidden in a mountain to get early access. This blog is going to go deep into Fantasy Faire and to get the ball rolling, Draxtor Despres has a special edition of The Drax files highlighting Fantasy Faire, Relay For Life and a discussion with Fantasy Faire organiser Zandar Greene.

Again Draxtor manages to get behind the avatar, and on a side note I see Linden Lab themselves are starting their adverts again with the real person alongside their avatar. The casting call for you to get involved was announced here. However back to this episode of The Drax Files.

The issues well highlighted here are the charity fundraising performed in Second Life via events such as Fantasy Faire and therefore other events, but Zandar also touches upon some issues that oft aren’t highlighted. One is how a convention such as Fantasy Faire simply wouldn’t fly outside a virtual world. In Second Life we can get people from different countries to embrace a massive (in terms of land size) convention that runs for nine days. The reach an event like this has the potential to be massive, technical limitations dictate that it won’t be, but there’s still scope for people from far flung shores not just to see the event, but to meet and socialise in a 3D environment.

Another issue that Zandar raises, and one I very much like, is the fact that in a virtual world you can be inside your own very interactive story, storytelling is an aspect of virtual worlds that is oft missed when people are looking for use cases in virtual worlds but there are a variety of ways of telling stories in a virtual world and they can add to the richness of the story. In many ways it’s a shame that we don’t see more aspects of storytelling at Fantasay Faire, but I will touch upon that subject in my posts for this year’s event.

Again Draxtor has done a fabulous job here, well done to all involved.
