CHUI Updated And Improved

Back on October 23rd I took a brief look at the new Communication Hub User Interface Project Viewer. At the time there were a few issues with it, but one of the issues was that the IM window looked just the same as the Chat History window, that has now changed. The IM window still looks like the IM Window .. as one would expect, however the chat history now looks like the IM window but with pages to go back and forth, so you can view your chat history. I’ll explain with pictures:

New Chat History

Note the pages indicator, so now chat history also looks like a chat history!

The other thing to note is that offline IM’s will also show up in this chat history, which is useful because threads get lost when they don’t appear. The conversation window itself is okish, I’m not keen on the way local chat history shows my old local history from a previous login, although there are times when that is useful I suspect:

Conversation Options

There are also plenty of easy to find options from right clicking on a conversation. I like the layout but this is a project viewer and still in its early stages, there exist some annoyances which the team are working on, but please do bear in mind that this is a project viewer and not a fully released build.

The CHUI project also has the distinct advantage of a Jira section whereby others can read and comment on bugs, in other words, a useful Jira section!

If you want to take a look at the project viewer, or see what other project viewers are around, you can download them from here.

  1. Do you know if these viewers are branched from the main source individually? In other words, is the HTTP project viewer completely separate from the CHUI?

    1. Unfortunately I don’t know, the CHUI viewer does have pathfinding tools in it, so that seems to be being kept up to date.

If I could download the http viewer then I’d have a better idea but there appears to be an issue with my ISP and corrupted downloads.

    2. Inara Pey has informed me that the code used in the HTTP viewer will shortly be incorporated in the beta viewer, so they must merge branches eventually.
