Project LR – Flumps Go Wild!

This post is a tale of brave deeds by your intrepid hero (that’s me!) as I venture into a strange portal to be faced by dangeours beings and landscape to bring you, my loyal readers, news of new developments by Linden Lab in terms of providing an inworld experience, I deserve a beer for this … well a cookie at least!

Whilst reading SLUniverse, I noticed a post about Project LR, an inworld game designed by Linden Lab. This is currently in beta and only available to premium members. Now if you are a premium member and you go to locations inworld that are primarily based on premium members you may see something like this:

portal

I’m not sure where these portals are going to appear, but eventually they will be available to non-premium users too. However, through this portal lies danger!

When you go through the portal you will see something like this:

You will also notice that you’ve got a HUD, as Linden Lab are running this show it’s acceptable to have a HUD auto added:

Tyrah’s workshop is easy enough to find, especially as there’s a signpost:

However there’s a little bit of confusion once you arrive there as you’re told to collect crystals, and there are plenty of crystals in the workshop:

However, these are not The Droids you’re looking for, the crystals you need to collect are outside and outside is a whole world of dodgy steps to avoid being teleported back somewhere and avoiding frendly looking beings. I will admit I was a tad confused at this stage, I even asked Rodvik for help, he never gave me any! However by talking to strangers we sort of worked out what we needed to do! Gasp there’s a social aspect here too and nobody minded you talking and asking for assistance, which seems to me to be a positive point.

Don't be fooled!

Do not be fooled! If you get too close you have to run for your life:

Trouble

I didn’t run fast enough this time! There are quite a few locations around for you to explore to find crystals:

Whilst I was there I witnessed a mixture of people who seemed to know what they were doing and people who weren’t sure. I went there as I said because I’d read the post over at SLUniverse, but others arrived there just because they’d found the portal inworld, which is nice to hear. There were a few people around there and Second Life artist and experience creator Bryn Oh even made an appearance:

I wasn’t there long enough to give an in depth review of the game but the idea is to collect crystals and follow the quests, there are machines to craft items once you collect crystals and some crystals can be exchanged for Linden dollars. Make sure you avoid the flumps strange beings and other dangers, this looks fun, for further reading take a look at the FAQ by Linden Lab. When I get more time I’ll try and give a more in depth review, however part of the fun of experiences like this is for people to learn about it themselves, keep an eye out for those portals!
