Science Fiction and Fantasy writer, Elizabeth Bear, is this year’s LitFest guest of honour at Fantasy Faire 2019 and Elizabeth is set to visit Second Life today, April 23rd, at 2:00pm SLT to partake in an interview.

This is the first of two scheduled visits to Second Life by Elizabeth Bear, the second is scheduled for Friday, April 26th at 2:00pm SLT when Elizabeth is scheduled to read from her works.

Never Mind The Fantasy Faire Weather

I arrived at Fantasy Faire in the usual fashion, hovering outside the gates whilst Sonya Marmurek muttered “We go through this every year, we’re not open yet, you’re not coming in”.

As usual I engaged with my usual cunning plan of waiting until the gates opened and then running past a bemused Sonya Marmurek.

I arrived at Fairelands Junction to find myself surrounded by a snow storm, this was, to say the least, a tad unexpected.

However I quickly found myself in much sunnier climes when I found my way to the region of Midas.

Indeed I found myself running from region to region to discover very different climatic conditions.

Fantasy Faire 2019 Literary Festival Celebrates Ursula K. Le Guin and Elizabeth Bear

The Literary Festival (LitFest) will celebrate its fifth anniversary at this year’s Fantasy Faire 2019 and this year, the event will have a decidedly science fiction, as well as fantasy element.

Wednesday April 24th will be Ursula K. Le Guin Day, where LitFest will celebrate Ursula’s work with readings from her work as well as having a ball with a “A Wizard in Earthsea Party: The LitFest Ball”.

I will provide more details on this day when I have more information, but there’s plenty more to see and do at Litfest, including an inworld visit from special guest of honour, multi award winning author Elizabeth Bear.

VWBPE Keynotes and Immersive Experiences

Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference is scheduled to run from April 4th – 6th, but as well as the main conference there are events happening outside those dates for people to explore and enjoy.

Scheduled keynote speakers are :

  • Dr. Tom Boellstorff, Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of California, Irvine.
  • Dr. Tuncer Can, Assistant Professor, English Language Teaching Department, Istanbul University.
  • Dr. Jonathon Richter, Chair of Digital Design Technologies at Salish Kootenai College on the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana and co-founder and Executive Director of the Immersive Learning Research Network.

Whereas the conference officially starts on April 4th, you don’t have to wait until April 4th to get into the VWBPE spirit because immersive experiences will be available before and after the main conference, indeed some have already opened up.
