Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education 2016 is kicking off right about now. The conference starts with a grand opening event that includes live music. This is before we get to the education aspect of the event.
From 1pm SLT today we get into education, with A Virtual Course Using Communities to Study Cultural Diversity. That is the first of many sessions being held at this year’s event, you can see the full calendar of events here.
The conference runs until March 12th, takes place entirely within a virtual world environment and is completely free to attend, you don’t have to be an educator to attend. The conference is not only about education either, the ways virtual worlds can be used and what people do in them will be covered as well as examples of machinima in use too.
Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg will be amongst those speaking this year and he will also be present at Gridwatch at 6:00pm SLT today. The blurb for Gridwatch informs us :
In this session, Ebbe Altberg, Linden Lab CEO, will discuss issues of importance to the Second Life communities. His primary aim for the session, however, is to listen to Second Life residents and respond to questions.
VWBPE very much promotes community usage of virtual worlds. There is also a fun side to the event, with entertainment and dancing promised!
As I said, you don’t need to be an educator to attend and the packed schedule has a lot to offer for those with an interest in virtual worlds, if you get time, pay it a visit.
