Details are slowly being released regarding some of the fun, games and competitions that will be available to visitors. In a blog post entitled Once Upon A Time, information about some of the areas of interest are revealed.
Stories can be told in a variety ways of course and the route this year’s event is going down includes (but is not limited to) :
MACHINIMA
Not much detail here yet but there will be the chance for five machinima artists to get early access and create their stories. More details on this are promised soon.
PHOTOGRAPHY
This year’s photo competition comes with a difference. There will be twelve winning photos, one for each sim and then one for the event overall. The winning entries will then be included in a calendar created via Cafe Press which will be sold to raise money for Relay For Life. Yes this means a real physical calendar will be available with Second Life photography on it. The winners will be fully credited for their work.
SHORT STORIES AND POETRY
There will also be competitions for short stories and poetry, however these won’t become real physical editions but winning entries will appear in Prim Perfect magazine.
BALLET
Erm… Orcs don’t do ballet, do they? Anyway, a special ballet will be staged and recorded prior to the Faire opening. This ballet will be freely available for viewing on all good Second Life blogs and some bad ones! Ok ok I made that part up but it will be available for viewing … Orcs in ballet? I don’t know, I suspect it may be more Elvish.
ROLE PLAY
Three roleplaying groups will be bringing their storytelling skills to the Faire this year and those stories will be told during the duration of The Faire with opportunities for visitors to join in too. Key events will be played out and the progress of the stories will be played on Fantasy Faire radio and updated on the official blog. So who are these three groups I hear you ask …
NeoVictoria in Asperatus
The NeoVictoria Roleplay Group presents “The Revenge of Professor Timmons”. A renegade aristocrat and an evil scientist with revenge on their minds are using illicit Strand-world technology to create a murderous clockwerk automaton. After damaging the power-center of the NeoLondon Cathedral, they decamp to Planet Asperatus and the NeoVictorians follow to bring them to justice! Beginning on 1 May in NeoVictoria SIM, they will be bringing the story to the Fairelands on Monday, 5 May when their intrepid band of roleplayers land in the sky-city of the Fairelands: Asperatus!
The Rickety Weasels
In Wiggenstead Mooring, between the lagoon and the tavern, live a group of feral kids who call themselves “The Rickety Weasels”. They ferociously protect the four Guardians of the Elemental Stones, which keep the balance of the Fairelands.
Little do they know that, no far from there, the Shadows are growing stronger and greedier, and that their leader, The Dark Shadow, covets the Guardians of the Elemental Stones. For the Stones could give him Power, and into Darkness plunge the Fairelands forever.
Trade Winds Pirates
A group of desperate pirates have found themselves stranded in Blackwater Glenn, desperately seeking funds to repair their ship. What lengths will they go to to accomplish their goal? You’ll certainly find a warm welcome in their impromptu tavern – but will you also find your pocket lightened?
So come and join us at the Faire … we can’t promise that you’ll live happily ever after … but we will do our best to make sure that you find the most amazing stories to see, to join, to tell and to take home.
