Second Annual Medieval Faire To Benefit Relay For Life Runs Until June 26th

The Second Annual Unmasking a Cure (UAC) Medieval Faire opened on June 17th and runs until June 26th. The event is a fundraiser for Relay For Life in Second Life and items will be on sale for that purpose with all proceeds from those sales going to Relay For Life.

The faire is in the style of a renaissance faire and activities include jousting, en garde, sword play, magic, archery, and horse racing. There will also be entertainment with a dozen live performers and numerous DJ’s entertaining the medieval masses.

There are over 50 merchants participating at the faire too so if you want to kit out your avatar or just take a look at the wares available, this may be the faire for you.

Fantasy Faire 2016 In Second Life Is Open

My bags were packed days ago, but after making an arduous journey I found the gates locked. Fluttering my eyelashes, offers of much mead or rather menacing frowns would not tempt the guardians at the gates to let me in early, but as of just over an hour ago the day finally arrived when Fantasy Faire 2016 in Second Life open!

Between today and May 1st a wonderful celebration of many things fantasy in the Second Life virtual world will be taking place and I’ll be there to capture moments, as time permits! Pesky thing time, I think the Sci-Fi community should help us out a bit.

The event is also for a good cause as it’s part of the Relay For Life fundraising effort within Second Life, which raises money for The American Cancer Society. Last year Fantasy Faire raised US$ 31,642 as part of that effort, this year, US$5,927 has already been raised as the gates open.

One of the cool things about The Fantasy Faire team is that they provide all these banners for you to publish (but please keep the aspect ratio), which is nice. Anyway, more importantly, Fantasy Faire 2016 have published posts asking for applications from artists, writers, DJ’s and bloggers for this year’s event, but the clock is ticking on applications.

During Fantasy Faire they have, Fantasy Faire Radio and recently they asked for Songweavers to apply for this year’s event :

Relay For Life Weekend In Second Life

This weekend in Second Life is Relay For Life Weekend. Now if you’re wondering what Relay weekend is, it’s explained on the official Relay For Life in SL website : What is “Relay Weekend” in Second Life?

Relay For Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society and has been active, and continually growing in Second Life for 11 years. In 2005, the first Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) was attended by a few hundred avatars and raised almost $5,000 US dollars for the American Cancer Society. Five years later, in 2010 the Relay For Life of Second Life raised over $220,000. The 1 MILLIONTH US dollar was raised in 2011 when more than 2000 volunteers raised over $375,000. In 2012 we passed the 1.5 million dollar mark. In 2014, we passed the 2 million US dollar mark and we are approaching the 2.5 million dollar mark quickly.

Relay Weekend is a fun-filled, overnight event that unites SL individuals throughout the world to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.

For more information about RFL in SL please visit the American Cancer Society Region anytime, day or night, all year long.
