Time portals have been opening in Second Life and on Saturday July 15th a new one appeared, this one taking us on a journey to Tudor London, which in my opinion is a modern looking environment.
As an intrepid explorer I decided I would research this location for you all and in between having some ale and a pie in The George Tavern I also found myself bumping into a time traveller who is better known for their appearances in 1920’s Berlin.
I stood quietly as a female looking time traveller with, as far as I know, only one heart, played a pleasant tune. This is part of the beauty of the diverse nature of Second Life, we’ve had a time traveller in a female form playing a leading role for far longer than the BBC.
Virtual worlds of course lend themselves to being able to bend space and time for us to travel forwards and backwards, there are other portals to explore here that allow us to travel back in time but other locations in Second Life will allow you to travel forwards in time.
The streets are adorned with market sellers plying their wares, some interesting looking fish certainly caught my attention, you can only eat so many pies.
Musicians can also be found on the streets, playing different instruments and entertaining the masses. At the moment there are a lot of masses, the location is very busy and this is good because I haven’t yet had the misfortune of bumping into any Elves, but give them time, if there’s music Elves will soon make an appearance and start bloody well singing!
The arts are also further represented in the form of a location called The Globe Theatre where performances based on the work of a writer called “Shakespeare” might very well be performed. I’m told he’s popular with humans but I may stay at The George and get Dwarfins to sing bawdy drinking songs instead, that should at least keep the Elves out.
