Linden Lab have brought us news of the latest edition of The Drax Files : World Makers series, informing us that :
Long-time Resident Arduenn Schwartzman has developed quite the reputation as a prominent inventor, scripter and builder in Second Life. With a career that includes stints as a both a molecular biologist and assistant professor outside Second Life, Arduenn is perhaps best known inworld as creator of the air combat game WarBug.
Enthusiastic is an understatement when it comes to Arduenn.
The episode, which in traditional style I’ll embed near the bottom of this post, explains how the creativity of Second Life can be so appealing, especially to someone such as Arduenn who had climbed the career ladder only to find more responsibility means more administrative work and less creative work.
Arduenn enthuses about creating a plywood box, an enthusiasm that many of us experienced when we first entered Second Life and realised just how much of a sandbox the virtual world of Second Life truly is.
Arduenn goes beyond plywood boxes of course, enthusing about adding scripts, making items rotate, changing shapes and much more. The enthusiasm which Arduenn displays is all the more impressive because he’s been in Second Life for over ten years and has created close to 500 items.
Some of these items are for sale in his store, OMGWTFL$10. Those who like guns that shoot Nachos may very well be interested in this location.
Arduenn also has a passion for flying machines and this is exemplified at his Warbug Headquarters. This is definitely worth a visit as you can try and fly in some of the rezzed items, this can be a challenge!
Arduenn is also a family man, hailing from Maastricht in Holland where rumour has it his progressive wife has allowed him to become a house husband whilst looking after his four children.
Again Draxtor Despres manages to get behind the avatar to show real footage of a person in their home, creating in Second Life, this mixture of real and Second Life footage really exemplifies how Second Life is part of the real world and not some distant platform where people hide away.
Another excellent episode and at around four and a half minutes well worth viewing, especially to witness Adruenn’s enthusiasm for a platform that will soon officially be celebrating its 14th birthday.
