New Babbage in Second Life is a place ripe for exploration, adventure, roleplay, shopping or just taking snapshots. This is a Steampunk location and it is beautifully created. When people wonder what people do in Second Life, New Babbage is a fine example of creativity, collaboration and fun.
The blurb in New Babbage tells us :
A steampunk city built by fans and enthusiasts of the genre. Pop over to visit other fans in a 100% optional roleplay environment. Better yet, live the Victorian SL life and rent land or place your shop here!
This is a location that feels like a city, there are trams, walkways, alleys and more.
There is also a lot of snow at the moment and if you use the region windlight settings, a lot of fog, but that’s not so good for snapshots.
The fog is very important to the setting though, representing the industrial nature of this region and the surrounding regions. However for those who like some fresh air there is Port Babbage.
Here we find all manner of weird and wonderful transport, from normal ships to airships to submarines that would not be out of place twenty thousand leagues under the sea.
This is a region where you most definitely need to look up as well as in front of yourself.
Clocks are a big feature in this city too and whereas I haven’t really captured many in these snapshots, you should go along to see the clock towers and hanging clocks that are around.
This region isn’t all work and no play though, there are bars and for the more cultured, museums.
There are also living quarters for those who like a more peaceful existence away from clocks and industry, although it should be said that clocks and industry will be all around you once you leave your living quarters.
Watch out for the trams, they run quite regularly, some may even suggest that they run like clockwork …. I’ll get my coat!
Currently there’s a very wintry and festive feel to the regions and this area would be well worth a visit just for that but there’s so much more. If you’ve never been to New Babbage to admire all its inventive glory, then I highly recommend that you do so.
