Celebrity Auction To Help Build More Classrooms For A School In Kenya To Be Held In Second Life This Weekend

Feed A Smile LLIK

Friday September 25th sees the start of a three day celebrity auction in Second Life with the aim to raise funds to help build more classrooms for a school in Kenya. I’m talking about the country of Kenya here, not a region in Second Life!

The celebrity auction is associated with an official charity, Feed a Smile, Live and Learn in Kenya. The charity has been active in Second Life since 2010 and was featured in episode 16 of The Drax Files : World Makers.

This weekend’s event is getting some support from other Second Life residents, most notably in the form of MadPea Games who have been blogging about this for some time. A recent blog post explains how the event has been gathering momentum as they announced; We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat! :

Since we released the video from the school in Kenya that we’re fundraising for we’ve had even more well known residents sign up to put themselves on the Auction Block for our star-studded Celebrity Auction. We even have 2 Lindens put their brave avatars forward for the challenge!

I’ll also embed the video at the end of this post.

Events will kick of tomorrow at 8am SLT with DJ Kess getting the party started. I hope she has also managed to find time for tuna fish sandwiches. Then a whole host of DJ’s and live singers will be entertaining visitors all the way through to 7pm SLT. Saturday follows a similar pattern, starting at 8am SLT and going through to 7pm SLT.

Sunday has a slightly different pattern because the celebrity auctions take place between 8am – 4pm SLT. The entertainment though will continue until 7pm SLT.

On top of all the singing, music and auctions there will also be a special screening of Canary Beck’s Paradise lost during the weekend. Full details of the entertainment schedule can be found here : https://madpea.wordpress.com/2015/09/23/charity-auction-entertainment-schedule-announced/

This isn’t the first time that MadPea Games have been involved in a celebrity auction for this cause, as they explained :

Last year MadPea, with the help of high-profile Second Life Residents raised 1.1 million L$ for the Feed a Smile appeal at their SL Celebrity Auction and this year we want to help complete one of those classrooms and get those kids into education.

That’s pretty impressive and I’m sure this year Second Life residents will also dig deep to support this cause.

So, where is all this taking place? Well it’s at the !Exodus Rock Club in Second Life, which as you might expect, is an entertainment venue in Second Life!

I’ll finish this blog post by embedding a video from a representative for LLIK who thanks Second Life residents and the organisers of this event for their help, it’s only about five minutes long but it’s well worth watching.
