The 2015 H.P. Lovecraft Festival in Second Life is now open and early visitors were treated to a visit at the landing point by Arik Metzger, who founded the H.P. Lovecraft roleplay group back in 2012.

A map of the region can be found on Flickr, that gives you information about vendors and other locations such as the cabaret, warehouse, Asylum, Egyptian exhibit and the carnival.

Like many events in Second Life, the H.P. Lovecraft Festival has entertainment with the entertainment opening at 8pm SLT today (I think!) with a vintage style mix of dark cabaret and electro-swing by DJ Fitch Lekvoda! I say I think because Google Calendar does odd things with time.

Other entertainment includes Music and light shows, Karaoke, 7Seas Fishing and The Elysium Cabaret dancers performing a Burlesque show.

This is of course a festival about H.P. Lovecraft and he is not forgotten in the activities either. On Wednesday at 7pm SLT there’s a voice event; Dramatic Lovecraft Readings with Virginia :

Part reading, part re-enactment, Virginia will read several Lovecraft short stories dramatic style!

There’s also a multi sim adventure associated with the festival, The Heart of Llhao Story Quest :

This year’s Lovecraft Festival is thrilled to present our multi-sim Lovecraftian Story Quest adventure ‘The Heart of Llhao”

You find yourself at the renowned Miskatonic University of Arkham, Massachusetts, where a recently discovered American Indian artifact, “The Heart of Llhao,” was scheduled to be unveiled to the public. Tragically, the item has been stolen, and the university has become a crime scene investigation.

Inspect the area, gather clues and items of interest, and follow the trail to find and recover this mysterious relic of tribal legend!

This event is designed as an interactive “who-dun-it” with a decidedly Lovecraft-inspired edge.

In addition to the story and journey, there will be freebee items to collect along the way, and prizes to be awarded…

…and, of course, a guaranteed finale to truly honor the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft’s eerie, often horrific, endings!

That sounds interesting.

This is the fourth H.P. Lovecraft festival in Second Life, the first was held in September 2012 and since then the organisers have decided that an annual event to H.P. Lovecraft is a worth cause. The region was certainly getting a regular influx of visitors when I was there.

The region the event is being held on is suitable eerie in parts. The region is also easy to navigate, with narrow straight streets that allow you to easily navigate the region. There are of course plenty of vendors there supporting the festival.

The festival also supports AutCom – the Autism National Committee and a notecard provided at the landing point informs us :

Since 2013, Lovecraft Festival has been pleased to raise support for AutCom – the Autism National Committee. To date, all of the festival’s vendor fees, as well on-site donations at the festival, have gone straight to AutCom’s coffers in order to help this agency’s mission of increasing awareness and education concerning Autism Spectrum conditions. In fact, one of AutCom’s board members is an active member of the Lovecraft Festival staff.

So entertainment, vendors, literary appreciation and charity, this is an event well worth a visit. The festival runs until August 23rd.
