If you want to visit some of the Royal Courts of Second Life a good starting place is the Ning site of : Royal Courts of Second Life. That’s far from the only place but it’s a very good starting point if you want to explore the grandeur and opulence of some of Second Life’s more regal areas. The areas have a definite European feel to them, such as the Italian themed Rocca Sorrentina. This place is considered to be some sort of Royal Retreat.
Inside the decor is rather impressive. However these sims aren’t just produced for eye candy, there are literature events, roleplaying and where there’s roleplaying there are content creators assisting with furniture, buildings and of course clothing.
Sanssouci park captures more of these sort of themes and is a wonderful location to explore. These sort of places need to be seen to be appreciated because I certainly can’t capture shots to do them justice.
Again you will find roleplay, events and content creators selling their wares. This is an era where the men wear wigs and the ladies wear long flowing dresses. This is of course different from many Second Life locations where the men wear crew cuts and the ladies wear very little. However this just exemplifies the wide and varied range of Second Life sims.
Going further afield I find myself in the grounds of Marie Antoinette’s chateau. Alas Marie Antoinette had no cake, indeed she was very miffed when I asked about cake and flew into a rage, saying that she never mentioned anything about cake at any point and she can’t understand why people keep going on about it.
Across the water from Marie Antoinette’s chateau we find more humble housing but it certainly looks suitable for the theme.
Even further afield and away from the Royal Courts of Second Life I find myself in the grounds of Versailles. I’m not quite sure what was going on in this region because it was adult and the description was in French. However there was a word in the description that would make the location definitely adult if the word means the same in English! I didn’t stay too long but again the scenery was rather stunning.
This sort of roleplay isn’t something I’m familiar with but there seems to be a rather decent interest in it within Second Life and many people prefer their history here to be accurate, which makes for some interesting discussions.
I’ll end this post with a video from Kawanishi Yana touring Rocca Sorrentina, it really is rather spectacular.
