Linden Lab have done a great job in providing the press with some good images for Second Life related articles. This was exemplified well in a recent excellent interview Ebbe Altberg gave to Dean Takahashi on Venture Beat : Linden Lab explores VR for its next-generation virtual world (interview).
I mean that looks like my kind of village and the next one doesn’t look bad either :
The main difference between the top and bottom one is that I know where the bottom one is because Ziki Questi added a comment on Flickr. The second photo is of a sim called Venexia. Now obviously this Flickr resource is merely designed to provide decent images of Second Life, rather than the old outdated ones, but for those of us who like to explore, it would be nice if at least the name of the sim appeared.
Obviously Linden Lab may feel it’s risky putting links or place names in. They may be accused of bias, the sims may disappear, the sim may be, shock horror, an adult sim! I can understand a little reluctance in terms of adding the location but on the other hand, I also think LL may be missing a trick by not including the location.
Maybe Linden Lab are worried that they will be flouting Flickr’s rules if they include any more information. That would seem odd, but the intent of the images is for Linden Lab to assist the press with their articles.
Whatever the reasons, it’s a shame that some of these wonderfully photogenic views of Second Life don’t contain much background information.
The upper image is of Mont St Michel – http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mont%20Saint%20Michel/78/36/21
Wonderful place, and a great recreation of the real thing. I’ve blogged twice in the past on it – here and here.
Thanks. Links make my spam filter get the heebie jeebies so your comment had to be approved.
I have to visit that place.
The lowest image is from Noble Goes Dutch — http://zikiquesti.blogspot.com/2014/06/noble-goes-dutch-de-vesting.html — but the sim is now private.
Thanks Ziki and the sim going private might be exactly the sort of reason why LL don’t post the location.
If one uploads using the direct upload option and checks the show location option, all flickr images will have the link for the place where they are taken (Most of mine for example).
About Venexia, i do think that the fact that it is a Adult role playing sim was the reason, not the fact that is private (You need to join the group to visit it and use occ tags if not ropleplaying there) for not posting direct link.
The third image of the steampunk airship was taken in a coastal sim off the mainland named Kingpost.
