The 24 Squared Fashion Event Appears To Be Well Designed

Other Side Of Main Landing

This is all a bit outside of my comfort zone, it involves fashion and shopping in Second Life. These are two activities I’m not that enamoured with. Now if there were Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, fashion and shopping, then I’d be more interested in events such as The 24 Squared.

However for some reason this event, which has been running since September 5th and runs until September 13th, caught my eye. According to a blog post from Siren Productions the event features :

  • 1 Week…
  • 98 Designers…
  • Menswear!
  • Womenswear!
  • Accessories!
  • Skins!
  • Hair!
  • Make-up!
  • Oh My…

Unfortunately there don’t appear to be lions or tigers or bears. However there are models around.

Now even if this really isn’t your sort of event it’s worth a visit because this seems to be a well designed location, low lag, plenty of wide spaces, but also making good use of scenery to prevent your graphics card trying to eat every texture on the sim too quickly.

Whereas this is primarily a fashion event it also has links to some of the Second Life media with sponsors including :

A couple of things strike me about the sponsors list. The first is that I did not realise that Second Life models were still so popular, but with agencies and magazines abound it still seems that it’s an activity that people very much enjoy.

The second thing that strikes me is an oldie. Publications within Second Life, it’s a real shame that this nettle has never really been grasped. People turn to ISSUU for their publications because it’s a decent solution for magazines. However as virtual worlds grow, there has to be a better means of getting publications to those within the virtual world than we currently have.

If you’re looking for a blog to tell you all about the wonderful designers at the event then I suggest you go and read Siren Productions blog posts about the event. As I said earlier, I’m well out of my comfort zone with an event like this.

However these sort of events do exemplify some of the great aspects of virtual worlds. An event like this requires collaboration, communication, planning, thought into how visitors will react and then a hope that everything is looking good at Linden Lab’s end. Virtual worlds are great for this sort of collaboration and this event is a good example of that.

If this is your sort of event then I suggest you pay a visit, remember that this is only here for a limited time.
