I’m currently listening to The Drax Files Radio Hour Episode 14, which is all about Philip Rosedale and High Fidelity. The thing is, as funky as High Fidelity may turn out, as technologically brilliant as it may turn out, it won’t be magical until it has Fantasy Faire! Now who does have a Fantasy Faire? Second Life of course! Drax knows all about Fantasy Faire!
Now in this post I’m going to talk about blogging Fantasy Faire because Sonya Marmurek announced on April 1st in a serious post : BLOGGER APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN! First of all, let’s take a closer look at Sonya Marmurek because if you’re going to blog Fantasy Faire, you’ll need to know Sonya :
Ok now you’ve seen Sonya! This year they have changed the blogging details. Traditionally you would apply to be a blogger and if you were accepted you would likely be assigned to some stores, last year they started to change this and this year they have changed it further, this year bloggers will get blogger challenges as an option. The beauty of these challenges is that they are open to official and non-official bloggers.
The challenges are :
Create a character from the Fairelands. Pick one of the Faire sims as their home, make a look mostly from Faire items, make the character come alive. Take at least one picture of that character in the chosen home sim and blog away! The more roleplay-style bloggers are invited to write about the character as well, but even those to whom pictures speak more than words can let those pictures speak loud and clear! Sim exploration stories encouraged!
Find a shop in the Fairelands you have never heard of before and blog something of theirs that you love. This is all about finding and showcasing the hidden talents, the newcomers, the surprises you can find when you explore the Fairelands thoroughly instead of just going through your already familiar favourites. If you know every single shop in the Faire, pick one that you think should be in the spotlight more.
This challenge is for those who do have a personal reason to support Relay for Life events and who would like to share it. Obviously if you don’t have any personal tie to the charity or if you’d like to keep your reasons private, there is no need to do this. But those who would like to speak out for the charity, for RFL and for their reasons, they are invited to do so.
Now when it comes to the sort of blogger they are looking for as an official blogger, rather than a casual blogger, here’s the criteria :
We are looking for bloggers who love what they do and who love fantasy, bloggers who live fantasy and cannot wait to explore the Fairelands. We want bloggers who are searching for new looks for their characters (or more permanent selves) and wish to dive straight into the Fairelands for eleven days like the lost fantasy kingdom it is, returning every year to us briefly. We are looking for bloggers who indulge in the whole experience, not just the new shinies, no matter how shiny they might be. (And they are.)
For further details please read the Blogger FAQ and also note that as well as bloggers to write about the event they are also looking for bloggers who can tell a tale or two to write for the Fantasy Faire 2014 blog itself :
In addition to the bloggers that we invite in for the early access, we will also invite a few bloggers to write straight to this site. These bloggers should be good storytellers who enjoy bringing fantasy to life and would love to make Fairelands exploration reports on the site, whether it be sim-exploration or reports on events. The application for this will be included as a part of the official blogger application.
However please don’t be put off by application forms or official blogger rules, if you want to blog about Fantasy Faire 2014, blog away to your heart’s content. I will however give one piece of advice for those considering blogging the event, beware of Dwarfins, be especially wary of Dwarfins who offer to buy you ale, Dwarfins can drink and it can get messy in terms of being coherent enough to blog about the event, trust me, I’ve been there!
