Tyche Shepherd has published the results of her mainland survey for the first quarter of 2013 over at SLUniverse : Mainland Census For 2013. The results reveal that three mainland sims have disappeared from the grid, all homesteads and all bordering The Blake Sea.
Unlike private region surveys, mainland doesn’t change much in shape or size unless Linden Lab launch something like Linden Homes or they auction off new sims, which doesn’t really happen these days, so the figures don’t change much in terms of the number of sims. There are currently 6,726 mainland sims on the grid, in December 2011 there were 6,723 so not much change over the last year or so. Tyche’s census also doesn’t include around 360 sims which are made up of help islands or Linden Realms.
Where the mainland census does see changes is with regard to things such as the total number of parcels, the number of owners and the amount of abandoned land. This survey reveals:
- Number of Parcels – 14,5238 (Down 2.2%)
- Unique Owners – 67,405 (Down 1.8%)
- Abandoned Land – Between 51,388,816Sqm and 55,615,680Sqm or 11.7% to 12.6% (Up from 10.6% – 11.6%)
Abandoned Land has increased by somewhere around 66 to 70 full regions since last quarter’s census, giving an overall total of 784 to 840 full regions. Abandoned Land has been on the increase since September 2011.
When it comes to owners, Governor Linden is still top of the tree, followed by the Linden Departmnet of public works, then comes the top non Linden owner. Here’s a list of the top owners who own over 750,000 Sqm:
- Governor Linden owns 178,033,968Sqm (40.4% of total) in 26236 parcels
- Linden Department of Works holds 26,750,736Sqm (6.1%) in 2447 parcels
- Largest Non-Linden group holds 4,899,072Sqm (1.1%) in 75 parcels
- Second Largest Non-Linden group holds 3,210,624Sqm (0.7%) in 49 parcels
- Blake Sea group holds 3,167,280Sqm (0.7%) in 140 parcels
- Third Largest Non-Linden group holds 1,107,216Sqm (0.3%) in 195 parcels
- Fourth Largest Non-Linden group holds 786,320Sqm (0.2%) in 181 parcels
There are other Linden Land holdings, such as Dee Linden, Guy Linden or Maintenance. Land owned by non Lindens is down 1.9%, around 68.2 regions. However the top land holders have increased their share of the pie, with the top 22 now owning 8.4% of Non Linden owned mainland, an increase of 1.0% on the last survey.
Now for the important score on the door, tier. Using Tyche’s usual assumptions Tyche informs us that tier income from mainland holdins is US$903.866 , this is a drop of US$22,223 on last quarter, which comes in at a drop of 2.4%. However it’s still a healthy amount of income.

Good and useful information! Thank you! It is surprising that the land on the mainland is almost unchanged for a long time.
