There I was reading the forums when I noticed two forum posts about a roleplaying venture called The Chronicles Of Xcalibur. One in the role play forum and the other in the games in Second Life forum. I am glad I read this in two places because this is an amazingly ambitious proposal that requires a double take.
The idea is to create a massive roleplaying space within Second Life, by massive I mean four hundred sims massive. Yes 400! Now it does appear that there is some funding available for the person behind this, however I don’t think the funding will run to 400 sims, this is a venture aimed at attracting other interested parties. The blurb opens with:
“Our goal is to build the biggest Fantasy sim on the grid, consisting of 400 Sims. Each sim will represent a town, all Unique. For each town there will be a King elected. For example, The King of River-stone. A Peaceful elven community.”
As I said, this is a mightily ambitious project but one that if it works, could be a real boost for roleplaying in Second Life. I’ve done a bit more digging and found the official website, which gives some more information on how they’re going to try and build this.
The first thing to note is that the project is clearly in its infancy, they are willing to order sims to be connected to their world, which you would pay for in Linden Dollars. They are also open to you moving your existing sim to their world, whereby you’d have to pay the fee for moving it but you would remain owner. Obviously they’re looking for fantasy type sims to move.
They are looking for builders and you can apply to become a builder via a form on their website, although why they want Photo ID I don’t know, that’s going to put plenty of people off.
They are also reaching out to merchants who may want to sell or advertise their wares, for a fee of course, which is understandable, you can read the details here.
There are plans for fifty sims for breedables, again this sounds very ambitious but shows that they are aware of the breedable market in Second Life.
The roleplay itself cold be tricky and I say this with good intentions, from the blurb:
“But don’t think you can be king for ever, if someone challenges the King of a town to a Duel, and He or She loses, that person will take the Crown, and rule! Will you be a Evil king, Crushing the Surrounding sims?
Or a Loved King Or even Queen! Helping the people. But Do you have war tactics? and Rule Multiple Kingdoms!!,
Giving for the first time, People A chance to Experience the full power of good and Evil!!.From Huge city’s, to the slums of dark wood.”
That’s going to be difficult to achieve when you’re asking already existing communities to come and join as they already have their own rules, maybe they won’t be part of that roleplay or will be declared outside of it? I’m not sure, as I say it’s early days.
At this stage I’m not sure what to make of this, although I admire the ambition of trying to build such a massive roleplaying area via co-operation with others, it just seems so massively ambitious. I do wish them well because if this even reaches a quarter of their ambition it would be huge for roleplaying in Second Life but with the project in such early stages, it’s difficult to grasp what direction this will take and details are a bit light on the ground.
I’ll watch this with interest over the coming months.
“I’ll watch this with interest over the coming months.”
Yeah, it’s kinda hard not to watch a slow-motion trainwreck. It’s in our genes.

The credits in their video were just a blip on the screen but I did notice the mention of Anshe Sims. Assuming this means Anshe Chung Studios. Gives them some credibility, certainly more than the very poorly written pitch on the main page of their site.
Ahhhh… so Anshe’s got a lot of empty excess inventory at Atlas rates (or lower), and this is a last attempt to get it occupied before sinking it?
*pops popcorn*

Yes popcorn indeed, this could turn out to be more interesting than I first thought!
ah that explains why they’re offering sims for order, good spot Danko.
Yes the pitch, grammar and spelling aren’t too encouraging. The enthusiasm is nice but it lacks a bit of depth.
So…you think this isa scam? Sell the Faulty Securities knowing they are worthless.
Oh I don’t think it’s a scam, it’s just not well worded and is overly ambitious in my view, it would need to generate a lot of interest very quickly.

The link TE King gave above has been dead for sometime. And it appears the SL account he used to post on the SL website about xcalibvur on May 29, 2013 has been cancelled.
Curious to hear an update on this project.
When he made the last comment about receiving the funding, it made my eyes open, but a little investigation revealed that reality didn’t quite match the claim.
