This month will see a month long festival, well it goes into next month too. Starting on November 15th and going through to December 15th, it will be a mixture of fun, partying and a big Gacha faire all in aid of Eku’s head. When I first saw that there was going to be a festival for Eku’s head, I must admit that I wondered what the bloody hell was going on.
However, this is deadly serious business, as Nephilaine Protagonist explains in her love letter for Eku. Really, you should read that in full, but to summarise:
Her struggles started with MS. Then they found thyroid cancer, and through poor treatment it turned into bone cancer. Over the last seven years, literally countless surgeries, radiation therapies, bone replacements and marrow transplants later, the stress of repeated surgeries has left her skull fragile and yet more surgery is needed.
The area where her zygotic arch meets the temporal bone is severely compromised.
Literally there is a risk that her zygotic arch could lift off the temporal arch and push the temporal bone into her brain. Actions as simple as chewing hard food or yawning the wrong way could cause this.
There is hope. Another surgery could correct this issue, but it requires the purchase of a prosthesis to replace the damaged bone. This is where myself and a group of people who love her dearly come in, and you as well should you choose to help out.
So a festival is being launched to try and raise funds for Eku and I’ll be mentioning the festival over the next month a few times.
Preliminary plans are in place, DJ’s are being organised, bloggers are …. blogging, merchants are …. merchanting … made up word! Sponsors are sponsoring (not a made up word!).
Hopefully over the next day or two I’ll be able to give people, in my usual informative manner, more information, along with pictures, quite possibly of skulls. On a more serious note, as it’s a fundraiser there will be donation jars around, as well as an indiegogo page if people prefer to go that route. Currently, over $1,300 has been raised via indiegogo.
The best place to keep up with developments will of course be via the Unhinged website, that is also the best place to check to see if there are any opportunities for you to help out, should you so wish. However I’ll try and keep folk posted here, as will other bloggers, well they won’t be keeping you posted here, unless I link to them, which will be me linking … anyway you get the point, I hope.
This is, as I said earlier, a very serious matter, so along with the fun and festivities, let’s spare plenty of thoughts for Eku.
