A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, the class of your sim was deemed important. However a couple of years ago Linden Lab decided it was time to end the class system, class 4 sims were cast aside in a mighty purge, class 7 sims were introduced in some parts but most folk were happy to be on a minimum of a class 5 sim, class 6 sims seem to have got lost somewhere in the story, but that’s a matter for a different day.
However over time, as we all tapped our feet, class 7 sims didn’t seem to grow much, indeed class 5 seemed to be the class of choice for many an estate, largely because there was no choice, we waited, and waited and then we waited some more and then we forgot all about it.
However, news from Tyche “Statto” Shepherd’s New SL Sims in the past week gives us this exciting news:
“There were no significant losses detected this week. However the biggest change was a large increase in the number of Class 7 hosted Estate Regions (up c3000 to 10687) and a related decrease in Class 5 hosts. This is the largest jump in Class 7 hosts since their initial roll out.”
Cheers were heard from many quarters!
The scores on the doors are:
- Estate – Class 5: 11174
- Estate – Class 7: 10687
- Estate – Class Unknown: 1185
- Linden – Class 5: 4340
- Linden – Class 7: 2531
- Linden – Class Unknown: 234
Last week Tyche reported there were 6911 class 7 estate sims, so is this new hardware? Well there is something else that seems to be happening here, there are less Linden owned sims that are now class 7, if we go back to 26th February, we see that the scores on the doors were:
- Estate – Class 5: 19103
- Estate – Class 7: 2910
- Estate – Class Unknown: 1228
- Linden – Class 5: 1540
- Linden – Class 7: 5337
- Linden – Class Unknown: 266
So in February there were around 5337 class 7 Linden sims, now there are around 2531, which is down around, down around 2800 and in February we had around 2910 class 7 estate sims, now we have around 10687, up around 7700, so if we subtract the 2800 Linden class 7 sims which seem to have switched sides, we can see there has been a net increase of around 4900 class 7 sims, so something does seem to be happening.
Now the next question is likely to be, what’s the difference between a class 7 sim and a class 5 sim, I don’t know! I’m sure Tyche does, or has a far better idea than I do. Class 7 hardware is newer, then there’s the issue of there being different class of class 5 and class 7 sims, Tyche has reported in the past that there are class 501,502,503,701,702,703 sims, what this means I’m not sure although at a wild guess I’d say it may be something to do with which release channel they are on.
So to summarise, it looks like hardware upgrades are taking place but I have no bloody idea what the specification the new hardware is.! If you’re on a class 7 sim, enjoy! I’m not sure how you find out which class your sim is on either!
