I’ve just discovered, after reading this thread in the official forum, that people who aren’t PIOF or haven’t passed the Mesh quiz, can’t list Mesh items on the marketplace. A couple of things stand out here, one, I can’t upload a Mesh model and hand it to my NPIOF alt to list on the Marketplace as partially Mesh or 100% Mesh, my NPIOF alt can still list it, they just can’t select that category.
Secondly, people who sell full perms Mesh kits will have customers in the same boat, people will be able to list it, but they won’t be able to click the radio buttons for partial or 100% Mesh. I can understand the passing the Mesh quiz requirement to a degree, I really can’t understand the PIOF requirement because a Mesh model in Second Life should, unless there’s a major flaw, have only been uploaded by someone with PIOF.
However we’re back to an old bugbear of mine, why do I have to put PIOF on my alts to get PIOF rights? I have PIOF, it should cover all my alts for that flag, so once more I have to point to Argent Stonecutter’s Jira-6212 – Create a Master Account.
I don’t really understand why this is do difficult a concept for Linden Lab to grasp. As I’ve pointed out in the past, I got my NPIOF / Non age verified alts adult access by submitting a ticket, Linden Lab replied that they had checked the accounts, the details matched and my NPIOF / Non age verified alts were then happily able to go to adult land, although not age verified land, as they weren’t age verified, even though I am, which was a bit silly but wasn’t worth moaning about.
However, my alts, which I’m very happy for Linden Lab to link to me, should have pretty much the same rights as me, ok they won’t get a stipend or access to premium sandboxes, that’s fair enough, they don’t get a tier free allowance, that’s fair enough, they don’t get premium perks because they’re not premium accounts but when it comes to PIOF status, uploading Mesh, listing Mesh items on the marketplace, being verified as having passed the Mesh quiz yadda yadda yadda, they should have the same rights as me as I’m one person, one person with multiple alts but I’ve already passed the quiz and Linden Lab have my details.
If one of my alts breaks the rules and causes chaos, you can sure as hell bet Linden Lab would identify all my accounts fast enough, as they should, so why do we still have this silly situation where all my alts are considered as different people? This is quite frankly absurd and should not be difficult at all to put right.
Was just thinking along these lines this morning. For me its about the hassle of tracking them all and convincing friends to be willing to friend them all… 🙂
I also use a different account for developing items than I do for selling them. For me it was about inventory. I put all my sculpty maps and sculpty development tools on an alt just to track them easily.
But I can see a lot of uses for it. Though on the other hand, as someone with 5 premium accounts, it might get fuddled up for me… On general balance though, in terms of the greater good; we need some kind of master account that just has ‘characters’ in it.
Developing items and selling them is often a reason people use alts, the alt gets less distractions giving the developer time to get on with things but the real issue is that it’s the same person behind the alts, for LL’s purposes that should be enough info, it’s the choice of each person whether they share that info.
I also think our login name should be different from our avatar name, that would be a challenging change for LL, but that’s how things usually work these days.
