Fractured Crystal Invited To Move Onto Other Opportunities By Avination

In my previous blog post I talked about Fractured Crystal’s contract with Avination on their viewer development and whether one of the infamous participants in the Emerald scandal should be trusted again. Avination were aware of his past but wanted to give him another chance to demonstrated his skills. However there’s a new twist to the story, due to allegations that Fractured Crystal still logs into Second Life, despite being permabanned, Avination have now taken the decision to remove Fractured Crystal from their staff and have intivted him to move onto other opportunities, as posted here.

I have no idea if the allegation against Fractured Crystal is true, but allegations surface in this thread over at SLUniverse (Caution, thread contains profanity). This is quite an epic thread, the questions about whether Fractured Crystal still logs into Second Life start at the bottom of page 14.

Avination have approached well known third party viewer developer KirstenLee Cinquetti to review the code Fractured Crystal had been working on as an extra measure of vetting, I find it highly unlikely that there will be anything malicious in this code.

However we are now in the situation of asking what lessons can be learnt here? Avination undoubtedly took a risk on Fractured Crystal, but were aware of his history, they were pretty transparent about his involvement as they discussed it at office hours and posted his name on their staff team. The alleged misdemeanour that has caused him to be asked to move on is minor compared to the allegations regarding what he did with the Emerald Viewer, but the misdemeanour allegations, if true, clearly show a lack of respect for authority and this is where Fractured Crystal needs to clean up his act and grow up, accept the consequences of his past actions and move on with new positive actions because as I said in my previous post, actions speak louder than words.

I also said in my last post that I wouldn’t touch a viewer he was involved with, with a bargepole. However others would have and I really don’t think he would have done anything silly, but there will always be that nagging doubt at the back of my mind.

Now it’s time for all parties to dust themselves down and move on, I welcome alternative grids to Second Life, but I also welcome the scrutiny that users of all grids, including Second Life, place those grids under.

  1. Once a griefer/hacker, always a griefer/hacker. I’d just as soon not have FC share my computer with me, thanks.
