In between Blondin and Amanda leaving Linden Lab, another community based Linden left, Courtney. There have been rumours that Courtney and Amanda might have left over the SL8B logo issue, although in the case of Courtney this seems unlikely as the word on the street is that Courtney left on June 10th after handing in her two week’s notice.
People move on, it’s a fact of life and like Blondin and Amanda, one would hope that Courtney has moved on to better things. Courtney I didn’t know as well as Blondin or Amanda (whom I didn’t really know either), I don’t recall Courtney holding any office hours. However what I do recall about Courtney is that she was enthusiastic, positive in the face of negativity and seemed to enjoy herself.
I can recall at the Valentine’s event that I gave up trying to get a kiss with Courtney, who was sporting a pair of wings, because there was a bloody great queue to get on the pose ball with her.
Courtney was a customer relations/community Linden and the value of people in these roles should not be underestimated. Courtney blogged about support news on the older blog system, not the really old blog system, the one after that! That particular post mentioned the now departed Jack Linden and Harpo Marx … Cyn Linden. Indeed Courtney holds the honour of actually getting Cyn to talk in public during a series of blog posts where she interviewed some of the Linden staff to let us learn a bit more about them, an interview with Cyn Linden was a nice addition to that series. There was also a nice interview with Jeska in this series.
More recently Courtney was introducing us to the winner of the Linden Dream Homes Sweepstakes as well as blogging about the Linden Endownment For Arts. I hope Linden Lab aren’t going through a period where they feel people like Blondin and Courtney are not important, they are very important because underneath the technical architecture there are people who don’t care how it all works, they just want to get on with their fun and people such as Blondin and Courtney are Linden links to that fun, they play a very valuable role.
I hope Courtney is doing well.
Agreed.
Same goes for Blondin and Amanda really when you said that Courtney was
“enthusiastic, positive in the face of negativity and seemed to enjoy herself.”
I know some people had issue with Amanda because of her ‘Facebook’ comment, but I personally think she was one of the good ones and people read far, far too much into that one comment (a misguided comment yes, but it was just one small mistake from what, in my opinion, was an otherwise great Linden).
Anyway – I wish all three of them well and thank them for being positive, forthcoming with communication and approachable.
I’m sad to see all three of them go and, while I’m not going to get into the dramas of assuming why they might have left or if there is some conspiracy there, I just hope none of them were made scapegoats for something.
There was more to people’s dislike of Amanda than her Facebook comment, but I liked her, she was rather feisty, rawwwwr!
Yup people will always come up with conspiracies and they may have left for the wrong reasons, or they may have moved on to better things, which is more likely, that’s what people do in life, I hope they’ve all moved on to better things.
