Fantasy Faire 2013 – Back To The Arcanum

Arcanum Main Store

Oh ho ho it’s magic, you know, never believe it’s not so. I’m back at The Arcanum but this time at the main store where if you have sound effects on you can hear the thunder and rain as you approach the impressive magical building. Inside you’ll see the ghostly piano and hear that someone or something is tinkling the ivories to help create a magical ambience.

The Arcanum is owned by the wizardly Mr Zachh Barkley who has been answering some of my questions regarding his participation as a creator at Fantasy Faire 2013, but as Fantasy Faire is unfortunately drawing to a close, I’ve retreated to his main store, which is a beautifully impressive photogenic setting, Marcus Inkpen has his hand in that too.

Arcanum Wizard Statue

I’ve been participating in Fantasy Faire since 2009.” Zachh casually tells me, wait a minute, this is the fifth Fantasy Faire, which means Zachh has been participating in all of them!

Arcanum Magic Orb

When I ask Zachh what he has enjoyed most about Fantasy Faire, he tells me: “The sense of community and coming together for a great cause.” This has been exemplifed by the fact that this year’s Fantasy Faire has been a record breaking affair with 6,870,027 Linden Dollars raised for Relay For Life by yesterday and it’s not quite finished yet. Over the years Fantasy Faire has raised close to USD$100,000 for Relay For Life.

Fantasy Faire 2013 – Lupoaica

Hair? Seriously Sonya, you want me to look at hair?” I asked Sonya Marmurek when Lupoaica appeared on my blog horizon.

What the bloody hell are you talking about? We didn’t ask you to look at hair, Dwarfins, magic, builds, no hair!

Sonya Marmurek

Ah, my bad, Lupoaica isn’t on my list of assignments, but I do have a bloggers pack from them, so tail between my legs I headed off to Ravenshard, a world of crazy themes.

Ravenshard

Meka Aeon is the creative force behind Lupoaica and hair is indeed their game, rigged mesh hair is amongst their newer items and they are exemplifying this at Fantasy Faire.

Fantasy Faire 2013 – An Interview With Thorn Witrial

I caught up with Fantasy Faire 2013 merchant and owner of The Golden Thorn, Thorn Witrial, to ask him about his experiences with Fantasy Faire 2013.

Thorn Witrial

CL: How Many Years Have You Been Participating In Fantasy Faire for?

Thorn: This is my first year. I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to apply, I think I missed the previous years’ application windows because I hadn’t heard about them. I have been to Fantasy Faire before but this is the first time I’ve been here as a merchant.

CL : What have you enjoyed most about your participation in Fantasy Faire?

Thorn : Seeing so many new people. One of the realities of Second Life is how spread out we all are. We find little communities where we reliably know people will show up, and then we sort of stick to them. There are vast tracts of sl land with no one, or very few people, with which to interact.

A big event like this brings people out of the virtual woodwork and it’s exciting and fun to talk and play with them.

When you add to this the fact that Fantasy Faire is designed to raise money for charity, well, it seems to bring the best out in people, making the experience even better.

CL : Have you been to any other sims and if so which have you enjoyed the most?

Thorn : I have been to the other sims and they all have wonderful points. My favorites really are Dragonspire (where I’m based, so I know I’m biased! :-D), Titan’s Hollow and Evensong. They really appeal to my fantasy nature the most.

Fantasy Faire 2013 – The Quest For The Golden Prim Relaunches Tomorrow With A Party!

The Explorer’s Club building at Fantasy Faire 2013 continues to be an area of mystery and I’ve received more information over the last few days. First of all another note was slipped under the door of my room:

We’ve received grave news from Steelhead. Remember we told you about the Questers that you might encounter around the Faire? You can spot them because of by their special titles – they’ll have the sign of the Quest for the Golden Prim (sometimes shortened to QGP) and their character name.

But apparently, some of them are concealing dark secrets – three of their number are dangerous fugitives!

News just in from Steelhead informs us that Questers known as Dr Wirefly, Professor McMinn and Miss Primm are wanted in connection with the murder of a citizen of Steelhead.  They were apprehended in Steelhead but escaped by drugging the Sheriff and his trusty deputies.

These people are highly dangerous – if encountered, they should be reported to the Sheriffs of the Faireland.,  We are asking Fairgoers not to risk danger by approaching them directly.  If you see any other Questers, however, we believe you may still safely approach them and request information (and gifts).

This news disturbed me greatly, but being an adventurer I couldn’t turn away, I just had to go back to the explorer’s club to see what was going on. I arrived there in good spirits, treading rather cautiously and outside the building I met a strange lady, she made me nervous, she took me in and gave me breakfast and I said “Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder.

No.” she replied, rather suspiciously, “I come from The Steamlands.

Well it could have been worse, she could have smiled and made me a vegemite sandwich.

Fantasy Faire 2013 – The Key Of Hope Hunt

Now if you’re not too busy this weekend, The Key Of Hope Hunt is still running and as we all know, hunts are fun ….. oh come on, they are! Anyway you will need a hud to play and this will cost you L$100 but the purchase is from a Relay For Life Vendor and therefore is part of the fund raising efforts.

The hunt comes in two parts, the first takes place in the Fairelands and as they are part of Fantasy Faire, you may need to get your boots on to complete it. The the second part, which runs until May 19th, is a collaboration with Madpea Productions.

Below is a narration of the prologue, and a mighty fine prologue it is too. However, if you would rather read the prologue, the text is below the YouTube clip, or you could read the text whilst listening to the youTube clip. At the end of the post I’ll also include the link on how to play the hunt.

Key of Hope ~ Prologue

For a thousand years and more, the demon prince Val’baan ruled over the land with fear. Then, a child was born who would grow to be his nemesis. This had happened before, but Val’baan was possessed of enough brains to maintain an intelligence network that alerted him to possible threats before they were too great to crush. This time, however, the girl was raised in secret by people ready for the time, and when she grew to womanhood the demon’s fate was inevitable. A quest, a battle, an overcoming followed, and the sun rose over the world once more. Kiana and her companions fought for three days to drive Val’baan first back into the valley, then to the temple which had been the seat of Val’baan’s power – his final redoubt. Two hundred men and women began that fight, ninety reached the entrance to the valley and only eight were alive to see Val’baan trapped as Kiana read from the scroll and completed the ritual of binding. Each of these took their place at one of the eight outer seals, with Kiana herself bringing them together in the centre. The heroes’ strength was thus combined to forge a lock that could never be opened again, from within or without.

 However…
