Fantasy Faire 2018 – Raising Funds For Hope Lodge In Kenya

Fantasy Faire 2018 will kick off in Second Life on Thursday April 19th, part of the Relay for Life fundraising effort in Second Life for the American Cancer Society. A fact oft missed about this fundraising effort is that it raises funds for global causes, as Da5id Abbot pointed out in a recent blog post; ACS : Not Just American :

The fact is there is a global need for the work the American Cancer Society does and, much like many other nation-based cancer organizations, ACS is committed to getting that work done wherever it can. Take a look at the ACS website (https://www.cancer.org/health-care-professionals/our-global-health-work/) and see for yourself just how wide the Society casts its net,

To emphasise this point, Fantasy Faire 2018 will be helping to build hope a home in Kenya, more to the point in Nairobi in partnership with the Kenyatta National Hospital, plans are afoot to build a 62 bed hostel. Lily Koros Tare, CEO, Kenyatta National Hospital said of the plans :

The KNH Hope Hostel will not only provide people from around the country a place to stay during treatment, but also a place to heal physically and spiritually.

Cancer is the third leading cause of death in Kenya, a country with a population of around 45 million people. Nairobi is the home to the only public comprehensive cancer centre, which means patients and family need to travel from all over the country for treatment, which is a major reason as to why this is such an important development.

Fantasy Faire Call For Merchants, Sponsors and Bloggers

Fantasy Faire Image here

Fantasy Faire in Second Life turns 10 this year and plans are well underway for the event which takes place April 19th – 29th.

The first steps for this year’s event were announced by Sonya Marmurek on 22nd February and in that link you will find an application form for merchants and sponsors.

Dwarfins Bar Brawl

This year’s event will host ten regions for merchants to ply their wares and raise money for Relay For Life, but as I type this I can see that seven of those ten regions are already sold out.

Tiny Band At Fantasy Faire

Sponsorship options are already selling out too but fear not, there are other ways to get involved. Fantasy Faire Radio has sponsorship opportunities.

Spires Of Andolys View

There are also opportunities to get involved in the auctions and the hunt, so don’t despair if you feel you’re too late to apply to get involved, there are still plenty of ways to get involved.

UAC Medieval Faire For Relay For Life Runs Until June 18th In Second Life

Entrance to Medieval Faire

The third annual Medieval Faire in Second Life opened back on May 19th and will run until June 18th.

The Faire is organised by the  Unmasking A Cure (UAC) Relay For Life Team and is part of the Relay For Life of Second Life fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society.

Unmasking a Cure

The blurb for the event tells us :

Unmasking A Cure Relay For Life Team (#38) presents the Third Annual Medieval Faire, beginning May 19 – June 19, 2017. The faire, similar to a real world ‘Ren – Faire’, offers medieval tournaments in jousting, en garde, sword melee, magic, archery, and horse racing. There are over 50 merchants participating. They are supporting Relay For Life with items that will be sold for 100% profit to Relay. On the entertainment front a dozen live performers and many djs are all donating their time, talent and treasure to Relay For Life. Don’t miss this exciting month long event; try your hand at all the sports, find that perfect outfit or decor item, enjoy live musicians and dj sets!

The Medieval Faire is a more serene affair than many Second Life events and the fact that it runs for a month means you will have plenty of time to take a look around.

Sea Ruins

The Faire is split into two distinct areas, a village area and an activity area and both areas are very well designed.

Fantasy Faire Closing Party Today But That’s Not The End Of The Event

Dawn's Promise Overview

Fantasy Faire 2017 hosts a six hour closing party today, from 1pm to 7pm SLT, but the word on the streets of the Fairelands is that this party does not mark the end of this year’s Fantasy Faire.

Zander Greene

Via means of nods, winks, secret messages and most importantly of all, an inworld notecard, I can reveal non-exclusively, that this year’s Fantasy Fare 2017 will be open until Thursday May 4th.

Fenn MacMoragh

The notecard states :

From Her High Faireness: “It’s not a typo! The Fairelands will be open for shopping, hunting, exploring, picture taking, and spontaneous partying through May 4th! Spread the news, even though our planned programming is ending with a six hour closing party on Monday, May 1 from 1-7pm SLT, there is no reason to be sad because we have the Fairelands to roam around until THURSDAY!”

Whereas there won’t be any official events going on, this means that you still have time to visit the wonderful builds for this year’s event.
