A Taste Of Sci-Fi In Second Life – Graves Appear To Be Taking Over The Virtual Universe

Remnants Of Earth Hangar

In my preparation for Sci-Fi Alliance’s Second Life Science Fiction Convention 2015, which is now open, I decided to get in the mood by visiting some Sci-Fi/Cyberpunk locations. I’ve mentioned this before, but there aren’t as many as I’d like to see. The Destination Guide has a couple of categories, Cyber and Sci-Fi under roleplaying. There aren’t a lot of sims and quite a few appear in both categories.

However one thing I have learnt is that Graves appear to be taking over the universe, but more on that later. The first place I visited was Remnants of Earth, which is a roleplaying location. You arrive in a rather impressive space station of sorts. There you can find plenty of information about the storylines, the factions, join the group, buy content etc.

Remnants Of Earth Streets

Outside you find yourself in a pretty damn impressive futuristic world. I really have trouble taking snapshots of locations that are best served dark and as with all three of the locations I visited, you will get a much better impression if you visit yourself.

Remnants of Earth

Remnants of Earth is a cyberpunk-fantasy role playing game, heavily based around classic pen and paper RPGs and with a focus on dice rolling, stats, MMO-like adventuring, and gathering. RoE takes place on Earth in the year 2130, after humanity has started to leave Earth behind to colonize the stars. Earth is now a crime riddled slumworld. This is it’s story of the Remnants of Earth…

Shadow Inc

My next location, to which I teleported, was Shadow Inc. This is a LGBT friendly futuristic location with shops, clubs, and a Graves store. This was where I first noticed Graves attempts to rule the virtual outer space universe. Shadow Inc. claims to be the first of its kind in terms of being a futuristic LGBT friendly futuristic location. They welcome everyone, unless of course you break any of the three rules of robotics, but if you do that then it’s your own fault!

Shadow Inc.

Shadow Inc. LGBT Industrial Complex is the first of its kind. Come explore this futuristic landscaped city, with hangouts for newcomers and seasoned residents alike. They offer shops, two clubs, even residential rentals. They have an open-door policy and welcome one and all to take a stroll into the shadows…

Oxymoron Home Of Graves

My final location was to the home of the evil empire, a place called Oxymoron, home of Graves main store! I scurried through the streets, looking for signs of the evil empress herself, but she wasn’t home. I imagine she was lurking in some sort of cyber tower getting her photon torpedoes ready to strike at some minions.

Oxymoron

I tried all the usual tricks, I set my phaser to stun, I looked for the glaring weakness in the structure at the centre of this HQ, but I couldn’t find a way of blowing up The Death Star.

There’s far more here than Graves main store by the way, and if you visit maybe you can find the tiny hatch through which the rebel alliance can fire a torpedo destroy the empire’s evil plans.

Oxymoron

Where volcanic ash once buried this nocturnal city, Oxymoron has emerged from the silent screams of the darkness. With blocks and blocks of urban and combat gear throughout the region, Oxymoron is renowned as home of Graves, a place for top-quality fetish and cyberpunk fashion.

One thing that did strike me about all three locations is that they are adult. There are adult vendors in at least two of these locations but there was nothing that was overtly adult, well there was one toy I encountered, but generally I think you’ll be fairly safe in these spaces.

  1. Sci Fi on SL is usually adult cause lets face it: sci fi geeks are the kinkiest bunch of them all. Visit places like Arcturus VI and you’ll see.
