The Meauxle Bureaux – Home Of The Moles

Michael Linden Is Here!

In her regular update on the number of sims on the grid, Tyche Shepherd pointed out that Linden Lab had added a couple of sims this week, one of which is named Meauxle Bureaux, home of the Moles, the busy bees of the Linden Department Of Public Works. Now if you’re wondering who the Moles are or what the LDPW is, let’s just take a quote from the wiki page :

The Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW) is a program focused on improvements related to the experience of living on, or visiting the Linden Mainland. The LDPW will organize teams of Resident builders, artists, and scripters (the Moles!) to create new content on Linden Lab’s behalf and to the benefit of all. Rather than divert company resources from areas of development that contribute to important issues like stability and usability, Linden Lab is choosing to go to the experts…

The experts being residents. So I set off to explore this brave new world and found it’s an oldie but a goodie.

Naughty Mole Build

The sim may look familiar, indeed it will look very familiar to anyone who roamed the Lumenaria sim at Fantasy Faire 2013 because that’s where most of the build is from. However that was an impressive build and I’m pleased to see it given a second life by the Moles… second life, get it? Haha ok ok I’ll stop.

Meauxles Bureaux

On the sim itself you will find buildings with a sign indicating which mole occupies the building. They may be moles, but they don’t seem to live in holes. Michael Linden also has a place there as well as a central building which has posters for attractions in Second Life such as portal park.

Mainland Commandments

However this build is also a place with some gentle ribbing and fun. The above post has good neighbour commandments for Second Life mainland. There are different commandments on each side of the post, for example the above side reads :

Thou Shalt Not Block Roads Or Sea Lanes With Thy Objects, Nor Shall Ye Set Ban Lines, For They Are The Suck

Alas that commandment gets broken all too often!

Bar

There are also social places on the sim, for example the bar, which was fortunately open. This is where the Moles gather, get merry and sing little ditties whilst planning their next build to delight fellow residents.

Meauxle Bureaux Open Spaces

There are also nice open spaces on the sim, where one can reflect on a hard day’s night and enjoy the view. Obviously this sim could probably do with an influx of Orcs at some point, but for now the Moles are very much enjoying themselves and I saw many a visitor whilst there.

Air Ship

If you get tired you can always take to the air and jump on the air ship. Alas unlike Fantasy Faire, there’s no live entertainment onboard at this present moment in time.

Meauxle Bureaux Square

Returning to the ground you have the choice of apples, ice cream and if you get really lucky …

Strawberry Singh Shares Coffee

Strawberry Singh will come along and buy you coffee, rumours that she did this to shut me up are probably not far from the truth. Hot chocolate is available too if that’s your drink of choice.

I fell in love with this build when I saw it at Fantasy Faire 2013 and I still love it to bits over a year later. The Moles have added their own individual features to keep the build lively and relevant and there are some nice touches, such as a humourous security system. This is a place well worth visiting if you have the time and if you get the chance to say hi to a Mole and thank them for their work, that would be nice too.

    1. Do you know where it’s ripped from? I keep getting told about Skyrim rips, there’s one statue that’s all over the place.

      1. This creator claims to be the orginal one on Marketplace for 150 L$

This one undercuts the creator with the same troll for 99L$ also on the Marketplace

You cannot copybot mesh if I am correct. Since there are two unique sellers with the same model, one put the effort to add a bucket and butterflies, the other one didn’t.

Go have a good look at that statue in world. Such a statue does require weeks to model and texture. When someone so skilled builds a statue like that with hand painted textures they will not upload the model with damaged vertices by the nose and left eyebrow. They will not sell their creation for 150 L$ in one pose completely textured.

3 weeks work “buy my statue for half a buck”

Most likely this is an older video game model slightly modified, you can view this by the quality of the textures used on the model.

There are plenty of objects in world like this, it is not hard to locate them. It is a shame as you no longer know who has actual talent and who uploads.

        1. Yes there’s a thread over at SLUniverse highlighting ripped content and many a statue gets highlighted there.

Apologies for the delay in your post appearing, links send the spam filter into panic mode.

  1. Cmon Ciaran.

U know this is LLs way of testing how they can steal and re-purpose (without renumeration) the content created by designers they’ve forced out of SL.

This is just the first step in easing this predatory process in….and you know that. Why don’t you just call a pig a “pig”?

    1. Well I’m pretty sure they’ve got permission to use these items and the Moles are paid, some may argue they’re not paid anywhere well enough but they are paid.

      1. I’m glad you are “pretty sure” they’ve got permission. Being “pretty sure” is what most journalist aspire to these days.

Who needs evidence and facts these days anyway, right?

I’m now “pretty sure” I’ve wasted time following you.

        1. The facts are that the creator of the Lumenaria sim at Fantasy Faire 2013 and the creator of items that populate most of Meauxle Bureaux are the same creator. I’m a big fan of the Lumenaria build, I’ve had pictures of it on the header of my Twitter profile for quite some time so I recognised it right away and took a look at who the creator was when I visited this sim.

Had the creator been different,I’d have felt something was amiss.

However the reason I’m “pretty sure” is because of the sort of issue raised by Mysterious Particle regarding a statue, I’ve ran into many a dodgy statue in Second Life. I don’t know who the creator of said troll is supposed to be and haven’t seen it before, however Mysterious has raised a legitimate concern there.

    2. Considering it was done with the creator’s knowledge and approval – which was sought first, then your theory tends to go down in flames.

      IP

(P.S. How do I know it was with the creator’s knowledge and approval? Easy – I asked him.)
