A Christmas Mystery – Whatever Happened To MySecondLife Private Messaging?

Twas the night before Christmas and good wishes were meant,

But within my Second Life no new messages could be sent,

Where have they gone to, what can we do?

At this time of year LL operate a skeleton crew,

One user sent in a ticket only for LL to purport,

This is a feature we no longer support,

Users were confused and chose to berate,

Once again The Lab had failed to communicate,

What has really happened, will answers ever be found?

Or will users have to accept the speculation that is abound?

A Christmas mystery has emerged regarding messaging on Second Life Web Profiles at https://my.secondlife.com , in a nutshell, the ability to be able to send other users direct messages seems to have vanished! Play creepy music now.

The issue was reported by Sonja Smedley On The Official Second Life Forums. Others in the thread observed the same mysterious behaviour, they were unable to send messages via My Second Life.

One hardy soul, Bondboy Dagger reports in that thread:

I too noticed this feature being gone. I created a ticket to inquire and have been told this feature has been discontinued.

Is this true? Has the feature been discontinued? The word on the street is that Linden Lab are operating Skeleton staff during the holiday period and new year, so answers may be hard to come by but it would be somewhat odd to remove a feature such as direct messaging unless Linden Lab have found that users are getting confused regarding sending these messages.

The thing is, those who are happily using web profiles and these messaging features would probably like to know what is happening. Having two messaging systems is not ideal, so maybe Linden Lab are taking a step back, or maybe it’s merely a temporary issue. Whatever the reason, it would be nice if someone from The Lab would comment, but as we’re now well into holiday mode, I wouldn’t expect an answer any time soon.
