Mesh Moves Closer, Master Account Doesn’t

As reported by Inara Pey, you can now find your mesh upload status in your account details on the official Second Life page for your account. Unless you have the right payment info status and have taken the quiz (the link for which you will find on your account information) you won’t be able to upload mesh.

There is also an official mesh update blog post explaining what will be happening during the next stage of testing mesh, as it stands it will only be available on certain sims (they were looking for volunteers) and anything uploaded has the potential to break, so don’t go making anything permanent just yet.

I liked the quiz, indeed I’d like to see the quiz made part of some learning curve for all Second Life users, especially those whom intend to go into business. The quiz itself has some half decent questions regarding copyright infringements and at the end has some excellent links regarding fair use, intellectual property etc.

Now these links may have some out of date material, they will at some point and I haven’t gone through them all, but it’s useful information for anyone in Second Life who is considering starting a business and it’s good to see Linden Lab including some intellectual Property issues in the mesh project, as I said it would be useful if this quiz was extended as part of anyone’s introduction to Second Life as buyers should be aware of issues as well as sellers.

However one aspect of the mesh upload status I don’t like is that I would have to take this test on all my alts for them to have the right to upload mesh and I would have to have the correct payment status on all my alts too, this is plain silly. Linden Lab have allowed my non payment info alts access to adult land because I submitted a support ticket, so they know my alts, this shouldn’t be a big issue to link them all to my mesh upload status, if I infringe trademark law on my alts, Linden Lab can already link it back to my payment status on my account. Placing payment info on my alts is redundant information.

This brings me back, yet again, to Jira SVC-6212 which calls for a master account to be created, this would make life so much easier. Linden Lab shouldn’t need customer information on every single avatar, linking one set of information to multiple avatars is useful for so many reasons, it’s about time this was moved along.

    1. haha yes, quite, it has been a long long time. I know it’s not the most important thing in the world to get on with but there are benefits to introducing a master account.
