Fantasy Faire 2014

Ok first of all a disclaimer, I’m not an organiser of Fantasy Faire 2014, so my information may be out of date! However as it stands, there are no opportunities left for sim sponsors, but there may well be opportunities for event sponsors.

The sim sponsors are :

Cerridwen’s Cauldron, Creators of Fantasy, Dwarfins, Fallen Gods Inc., Fuubutsu-Dou, The Looking Glass, NeoVictoria, Roawenwood and Solarium. The event sponsors are Curious Kitties, Dark Goddess Designs, Epic, .Luminary., L’Uomo and Spyralle.

So what about creator spots? Well, back on March 15th Sonya Marmurek blogged : CREATOR APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! In that post Sonya links to the actual creator/Event Sponsor application form, which is a most important document to read as it details the costs and rules for participation.

In an additional blog post on March 26th Sonya wrote :

we do still have some limited space for creators of fantasy and steampunk. Yes, steampunk! We have several steampunk sims this year, so don’t think it’s only about magic and fairies here!

At this point I tried to hit Sonya with a curse of agony, steampunk in fantasy land! Pah! … Oh wait, this isn’t new for Fantasy Faire at all … hmm I better cancel that curse of agony.

Fantasy Faire 2014 – The Press Release

Fantasy Faire 2014

I am miles behind with my coverage of Fantasy Faire 2014, Sonya Murmarek and the team are way ahead of me! For those who are not familiar with Fantasy Faire in Second Life, I advise you to take your time to make yourself familiar with it. On a scale of 1 – 10, with 1 being pretty damn rubbish and 10 being awesome, Fantasy Faire rates as an 11! My favourite Second Life event by a country mile.

So in the next few posts I’ll start catching up with the news so far, hopefully I’m not out of date with the news, from what I can see there are still openings for merchants who want to participate.

The best place to start is with the official press release, which I’ll post below the cut.

Relay For Life In Second Life Kicks Off This Weekend

The 10th Relay For Life fundraising effort in Second Life kicks off this weekend, even though it’s sort of the 11th, there was a fundraising effort in 2004 but it wasn’t an official Relay For Life event, that started in 2005.

The opening ceremony takes place tomorrow on Saturday 8th March but events start today. There’s a list of events here: http://relayforlifeofsecondlife.org/events-list/ That page gets updated regularly.

For those who don’t know, Relay For Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and has a long history of being involved in Second Life. There are many events and associated events throughout the year, some you may attend without even realising it’s a relay for life event. For example Fantasy Faire is part of the fundraising.

However this weekend sees the start of the main organisation and overall body for those fundraising efforts. Second Life users have over the years very generously donated Linden dollars which are then converted into real dollars for this cause.

The fundraising started in 2004, when a total of US$2,000 was raised since then a lot more money has been raised:

  • 2005 – US$5,000
  • 2006 – US$41,000
  • 2007 – US$118,500
  • 2008 – US$215,000
  • 2009 – US$274,000
  • 2010 – US$222,804
  • 2011 – US$375,000
  • 2012 – US$375,385
  • 2013 – US$393,000

According to my calculator that’s a total of US$2,021,689 raised by Second Life users.

2013 Reviewed

The challenge with a review of the year is to try and make it worth reading. There’s a balance between including information and including too much information. This year’s review is largely based on Second Life and my own posts, so there’s plenty of information that I will be missing. For those who want a more in depth review, Inara Pey has been reviewing 2013 too.

For me personally it was a difficult year, Reed, Dee, Izzy and TJ Linden all gave me wonderful support, even when I myself was more than a tad grouchy with them but I do appreciate the efforts they made to accommodate me.

This post is not as long as it looks, if you skip the pictures, links and embedded videos it won’t take as long to read as you may think at first glance. I did consider breaking this down in to different posts, as I did last year. However at the end of the day it is what it is, so it looks like it’s epic in length but it’s really not. However to aid people I’ve decided to go back to HTML school and create a table of contents! Hurrah.

Celebration of The Late Alliez Mysterio’s Second Life To Be Held On December 7th

Alliez Mysterio has sadly passed away after a battle with breast cancer. Alliez, who ran a large number of private estates passed away two weeks ago. News of this was posted on SLUniverse by Polgara Llewellyn, who said:

It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of Alliez Mysterio, owner of dAlliez Estates, my friend and boss.

Alliez passed away 2 weeks ago from Breast Cancer and her estates are now going to be run by her real life daughter Sue Peregrine who, like Alliez, has been on SL for 10 years.

Anyone who knew Allie knew she was a fair person with lots of class and a great sense of humor. We invite those of you who knew her to celebrate her 10 years of life on SL this Saturday December 7, on her home sim, dAlliez. We will be celebrating her life all day long with some of her favorite musicians and her dAlliez family and friends.

We will have kiosks set up for donations to the American Cancer Society where you can donate Lindens in Alliez name to help others who are struck with this horrible disease.

Please join me and the dAlliez family in celebrating the life of this wonderful woman who loved SL so much.

For more information you can contact, Trader1 Whiplash, Nuala Maracas, Sue Peregrine, or myself in celebrating the SL life of Alliez.

If you knew Alliez you may want to pop along to celebrate her Second Life with friends and family.
