Estate Sims Get Some Class 7 Loving

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, the class of your sim was deemed important. However a couple of years ago Linden Lab decided it was time to end the class system, class 4 sims were cast aside in a mighty purge, class 7 sims were introduced in some parts but most folk were happy to be on a minimum of a class 5 sim, class 6 sims seem to have got lost somewhere in the story, but that’s a matter for a different day.

However over time, as we all tapped our feet, class 7 sims didn’t seem to grow much, indeed class 5 seemed to be the class of choice for many an estate, largely because there was no choice, we waited, and waited and then we waited some more and then we forgot all about it.

However, news from Tyche “Statto” Shepherd’s New SL Sims in the past week gives us this exciting news:

There were no significant losses detected this week. However the biggest change was a large increase in the number of Class 7 hosted Estate Regions (up c3000 to 10687) and a related decrease in Class 5 hosts. This is the largest jump in Class 7 hosts since their initial roll out.

Cheers were heard from many quarters!

Tyche Shepherd’s Awesome Mainland Census – March 2012

Tyche “Statto” Shepherd, who was recently interviewed by Hamlet Au over at New World Notes, has unveiled her latest work in the shape and form of her March Mainland Census, which you can read in full over at SLUniverse by clicking here.

The census tells us that mainland regions have stabilised since December and remain at 6,723, this is still a record figure but it’s the same figure from the December census.  This figure excludes Linden owned regions such as help islands and Linden realms, which in themself amount to a figure of around 500.

The census reveals good and bad news, the good news is that ownership of parcels is up, by 0.2%, this means that more unique avatars own land than the previous census. The figures Tyche gives us reveal that this amounts to 68,485 unique owners, with individual parcel owners at 56,660, up 163 from December’s census, whereas 12,825 groups own land, down 14 since December.

However on the bad news side, abandoned land is now at record levels, of between 7.2 – 8.3% of mainland abandoned. Tyche informs us that this is an equivalent of 484 to 557 full regions, which is rather shocking when you think about it but I’m not sure what Linden Lab can do about that, moving people would cause chaos and mayhem and have people searching for their pitchforks left, right and centre! The increase in abandoned land since December is estimated by Tyche to be the equivalent of 27-30 regions.

Second Life Is Alive And Well

Hamlet has a post with quotes from Stat Goddess Tyche Shepherd, showing that private estates are being shed from the grid. Tyche reported these losses on her excellent grid survey thread over at SLUniverse, the particular post in question has details of Tyche’s private estate survey, you can read the post here.

Tyche’s comment that raises eyebrows, or causes gasps is:

” Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$4,920,000 +/- US$58,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is down on last month’s estimate of US$5,006,000 by $86,000 , a significant fall of about 1.8%. This is the first time the monthly tier figure has fallen below US$5 Million since I began the private estate surveys and the margin of error indicates this is a significant finding.

I’m not going to say Linden Lab shouldn’t worry about this, they absolutely should, but it’s certainly not time to man the lifeboats, just under USD$5 million per month in tier for private estates, is still a healthy figure, especially in these tough economic times. I do think tier is too expensive these days, but to lower it Linden Lab need to boost other income streams, slashing tier now would more than likely give a short term boost, but Linden Lab need to play the long game.

Estate Sales Offer Looks To Have Been A Success

Despite some complaints, especially from those in the second hand sim market and despite questions about the advertising, the Second Life sim sale seems to have been a success, according that is to ace stat gatherer Tyche “Statto” Shepherd who reports to us from SLuniverse:

Overall 322 new private regions were added to the grid between Friday and this morning, along with another 50 which returned to the grid, the net effect was to increase the grid to 31248 regions from 30924 with private estates gaining 311 to 24262 . This is about 300 private regions more than would have been expected over the same period if no offer had been active.

Of the 322 new regions, 152 were Full Regions and 43 were Homesteads, the remaining 127 were still closed to public access. The 195 open to public access were owned by 177 different owners, with no single person purchasing more than 3 regions. On investigation some purchases were by the larger estates ,again no more than 3 regions, but 111 of the new owners have no other active holdings.

Tyche Shepherd’s Awesome Private Estate Survey For September

Hot off the presses is Tyche Shepherd’s awesome private estate survey, September 2011 edition. The survey is based on a sample of 5,000 randomly selected private estate regions, which is a high enough number to get some  pretty decent figures from.

The survey tells us that Anshe Chung is losing sims, but not that many as quite a few are ending up in the hands of The Chung Sisters and when you add ACS Dreamland, Azure Islands and The Chung Sisters holdings into the pot together, Anshe’s organisation is top of the pile with 7.9% but this is 0.7% down on last month.

The big climber appears to be LaLa estates, who are now in second place as an independent group, with a 0.6% increase this month, top of the charts however is RGF Estates, with 5.7%. Confused? Anshe’s holdings are in different groups, so RGF is top as an independent entity but Anshe’s group is overall top when you add together all the different groupings, however as individual entities they are behind RGF and Lala estates.
