Visiting The Elven Isle Of Telrunya

The Elven Isle Of Telrunya

This was a risky visit, to say the least. Dwarfins are not usually too friendly with Elven folk but I had been reassured by the good folk behind the Second Life destination guide that I would be granted safe passage for my visit.

Palace

Everyone is welcome I was told, but when you’ve been brought up to never trust elves then you still step forth with some trepidation. However I can report that my visit was a safe and peaceful one, which is why I’m able to relay the tale of my visit to you.

Boat

The Elven Isle Of Telrunya is, I must admit, picturesque. Elves have this thing about water and boats which I’ve never quite come to terms with but they do make for a tranquil way to visit a location.

Visit The Timekiller Goth Festival Before It Runs Out Of Time

Linden Lab’s continued excellent promotion of The Destination Guide alerted me to the Timekiller Goth Festival. Alas this also alerted me to the fact that the festival is running between January 9th – 18th, which means if you want to visit, you’re almost out of time!

Timekiller Festival

The slGoth Timekiller Festival is a gothic and dark alternative event. This festival features a whole host of content creators, daily concerts, movies, live storytelling and more. There’re even free gifts from vendors and slGoth Magazine.

Visit in Second Life

The festival is taking place on the parcel of SL Goth Magazine, whom I didn’t know existed. This is another good reason for holding events or getting yourself in the destination guide.

Goth in SL

The event is supported by a host of creators, whom I shall list from the SL Goth Magazine website :

Black Arts – BYRNE – Biscuit Clothing – Cute Poison – Cherished Memories Wedding Store
Dark Passions – DEADPOOL – Devae – Galactic Wunder Nails – Ghost Story – Howling Asylum – ImmateriA – Morphe Inc. – PIXEL BOX – Stargazer Creations – Thanks for All the Nebulae and more!

Christmas Expo & Winter Breedables Fair In Second Life Opens Tomorrow

The Arcade Gacha Events

The Arcade Gacha Events presents the ultimate GACHA experience! Guaranteed to delight shoppers, The Arcade offers unique gacha prizes from 100 of the grid’s top designers!

Visit in Second Life

So you can’t get into The Arcade Gacha Events because the place is always full. Never fear, there’s plenty of other events to attend in Second Life and a great place to start looking is the Second Life Destination Guide where you should most definitely keep an eye on Editor’s Picks, Winter Attractions and Featured Events.

However, something else you should most definitely keep your eye out for is the SL Christmas Expo 2014, which opens its doors to the public tomorrow.

Xmas Expo Tree

This is an event that is dear to my heart because back in 2012, it’s the place where I discovered The Dwarfins!

The expo also held discussion panels, where creators talked to in front of a live studio audience.

Geeks n’ Nerds Paint A Stylish Landscape

Leaving The Subway

Today I spent some time wandering around the Geeks n’ Nerds Fair. So the first thing to deal with is, what on earth is Geeks n’ Nerds? Well I’ll let the event organisers explain :

Now, what is the Geeks ‘n’ Nerds Fair? It’s an event that will be hosted by Wimey for amazing stores to showcase all things geeky, nerdy, and over all amazing that in all honesty, even though there’s a high demand for it in Second Life, There’s just not enough to meet this ever growing popular theme.

Each store will create at least one new item to fit the over all theme of the fair. It can be anything from sciences, literature, popular TV shows, fandoms, whatever you think that best represents the spirit of this wonderful theme.

The event for the year of 2014 will take place from Nov. 24th, to Dec. 10th.

As is usual with Second Life events, it’s a busy affair but as we’re a few days into it, it’s not as hectic as it would have been during the first couple of days. This means you can walk around the fair and avoid that feeling of treading in treacle.

Geeks n' Nerds Fair

The roll call of those who are displaying their wares was announced in a blog post on the Geeks n’ Nerds website. That blog post also tells us a bit more about the nature of the event as well as the theme :

Every designer will put forth at least one item that has to do with the theme, something magical and amazing, so there’s no doubt that no matter /how/ you see yourself, there will be something there for you! From the gamers to the scientist, to the literary book worms, we’ve got you covered.

The event itself is set in a rather stunning Sci-Fi location. You arrive in a subway, make you way through the turnstyles and up the stairs, where you find wide streets populated with skyscrapers.

Police Car

However the streets are also adorned with futuristic vehicles and items, such as a Gullwing style police car that appears to have been called to respond to an airborne biohazard.

Destination Guide Website Could Do With Search And Consistency

There’s quite a nifty quick tip blog post from Linden Lab regarding communities. The post mostly concerns itself with groups and interests but it also touches upon the destination guide. I had a reason to use the destination guide today, searching for meeroos because the main sim wasn’t showing up in places search for me. This is when it struck me that the inworld version of the destination guide allows me to search it, a feature missing from the website version.

I like the destination guide, I think it’s a nifty feature and I love those ad widgets that allow you to copy and paste code to a website:

Torley Cyberpunk Island

This homage to classic computer games and cyberpunk culture places you “on the grid.” Amidst bouncing balls and other surreal experiments, explore the multi-leveled displays — be bold and fly up. Hang out here and you may spot a Torley at work in its digital habitat!

Visit in Second Life

However the website has all sorts of categories that inworld doesn’t have and inworld has the search feature, adding a search feature to the website would be really handy as it continues to grow. The destination guide of course also needs to be updated regularly, not just for new entries but also for entries that are no longer in existence, that’s the part I’m not convinced happens.
