Dwarfins Release Altar Of Eternity

Dwarfins, the breedable game involving Dwarf like Dwarfins, have released an eternal altar which means you can keep your most treasured Dwarfins around until infinity and beyond …. or something like that.

Dwarfins At Play

A blog post explaining how this works has appeared on The Dwarfins Website. An eternal Dwarfin has pro’s and cons. The pro’s:

  • Never has to eat again.
  • Does not age.
  • Still interacts with our Interactive objects.
  • Still animates, walks around, etc.
  • Will give you all its gold before becoming Eternal.

However an eternal Dwarfin isn’t as capable as a mortal Dwarfin.

Marketplace Could Do With Buyer Protection

I’ve seen a few complaints recently regarding people receiving items that are not as described via the marketplace. One was a complaint that the buyer purchased three full perm mesh items, but received two boxes with no mod notecards in them, for the princely sum of 18,500 Linden Dollars: About Marketplace and thieves.

Another thread details how someone paid 6,000 Linden Dollars for a Mesh Avatar and after purchasing discovered that they also need to purchase a client from the Marketplace for the sum of 20,000 Linden Dollars : How do I get a refund from a Marketplace seller who falsely advertised?

In the latter case I can find examples on The Marketplace of something along those lines, they can be found in the :::Next Gen::: store on The Marketplace (Listings have been pulled). Those avatars actually look pretty impressive, the description states:

The New Age range is entirely compatible with ALL mesh & rigged mesh clothing. You will look better than most of the people you know in this brilliant avatar.

All of our worn products work in conjunction with Premier Life and give the user such an enjoyable experience that has given us the opportunity to be in 3D development for the last 3 years.

Maybe the buyer should have asked what Premier Life is before purchasing, but the description does not say that you must buy Premier Life, whatever Premier Life is, even The Marketplace description for Premier Life (Listing has been pulled) contains little details:

This is the Premier Life Client which is needed to view ALL Next Gen Wearables.

That line should really be in all their product descriptions, although if Premier Life is a third party viewer then it’s in breach of policy on client names, however as it will cost a buyer a whopping 20,000 Linden Dollars, it should be firmly pointed out in all listings that this product is required. I doubt that the merchant is trying to deceive anyone, it looks more like an oversight to me but it’s an oversight that should be rectified.

The bottom line here is that The Marketplace should have a dispute resolution centre similar to eBay’s.

Enough With The Jira

Jira WEB-467 : Cannot search sim in maps.secondlife.com, I have this issue, I can confirm I have this issue, I can even add extra comments suggesting it’s a landing point height issue and ask other reporters whether their landing point is above 700 metres ….. well no I can’t add that information, no I can’t comment, no I can’t add a bloody thing.

Enough with this, if this is how Linden Lab want to play it, more power to their elbow, I’m through with it. I’ve had enough with this lack of co-operation with Linden Lab, it’s tiresome, frustrating and not good for my blood pressure and I’ve certainly had enough of trying to get Linden Lab to see sense over this, good luck with their useless, nerfed, ineffective, bug reporting procedure.

Ad Widgets For Events Please

One of the things I like most about the destination guide are the ad widgets, you click a destination, click create ad widget, change your options and you get some code to paste into a blog or website and voila:

Goatswood

Delve deep into the dark past of Goatswood, a SGS Victorian role-play sim set in a mysterious English village. Goatswood features an incredibly intricate, detailed world, a unique story system, multiple character possibilities, Victorian social classes, structured role-play and magic systems, covens to join and plenty to explore and do. Will Goatswood be your escape, or is it what you’re escaping from?

Visit in Second Life

I’d love to see this extended to events, I can’t find a way of doing it for events. Events inworld, when you click more info, give you a nice display:

An Image Should Be Here
Inworld Event

Now an event ad widget, similar to the destination guide ad widget, to create event ad widgets would be beneficial for people who want to create events and post details on websites because it looks a lot neater.

How Can We Bring Authors To Second Life?

Second Life is an international community, as exemplified by this official YouTube Video:

This has absolutely sod all to do with this blog post, but I love that accent! Well it has a spurious link, the issue I want to talk about is bringing authors to Second Life. On my Twitter feed I have a few authors, writing is of course all about the imagination, but I think Second Life is missing a trick by not reaching out to the creative talent of authors.

Authors create visions, you can deliver those visions in a 3D world, which Second Life is. So how do we go about encouraging the creativty of authors being delivered in Second Life? We certainly don’t do it via notecards. I’d love to see an improved notecard system that could at least deliver HTML books.
