A Visit To Cerridwen’s Cauldron

Cerridwen's Cauldron

Cerridwen’s Cauldron is rather an odd sim in many ways. There are attractions here, such as :

  • Tower Of Dawn
  • Botanical Garden Display
  • Aquarium
  • Lost Halls

The latter gives a clue as to what makes this sim rather odd. The Lost Halls contain vendors, selling the wares in this wonderful region. The way the store blends so well with the setting is what makes this region a tad odd, for all the right reasons I should add, you don’t feel like you’re in a store, but you do appreciate the work of the creator and can find that work easily if you want to take some of it home with you.

Balloon

The land description describes the region as :

Fantasy plants, trees and flowers, avatars and buildings. Main Shop, Gallery and Landscaped Sim. Relaxing, exotic and beautifull. Non-disruptive RP, daters and photographers welcome. Home of the grid famous fantasy plants.

This is very true as this region of wonderfully exotic plant life in a fantastical setting is indeed ideal as a store, a roleplay area, ideal for daters and almost perfect for photographers.

Temporary Problems May Be Encountered When Using SLShare With Facebook

Linden Lab have blogged regarding an issue with Facebook and SL Share : An Update on SLShare Service Issues. The post explains that Facebook have recently announced that they are depreciating an old Open Graph API. The implication with this change is that all apps running version 1.0, need to update to version 2.0.

Linden Lab are on the ball with this and have updated their SL Share app to version 2.0, but things aren’t complete on Facebook’s end, which may mean there are problems for a couple of week. The blog post states :

This means that when using SLShare (updating status, photo uploads, and check-ins from the Viewer) you may experience some temporary problems. Please be assured that we are aware of this and any issues you encounter should be resolved once the migration period is complete.

Thank you for your patience!

So the message is clear, there may be a bit of quirkiness for a couple of weeks when using SL Share with Facebook. Now I’ll be honest, I’ve never used SLShare, but for those who are wondering what it is, SLShare is a way of sharing your Second Life experiences on social media, such as Facebook, Flickr and Twitter and it looks rather straight forward.

The first thing to do is to ensure the toolbar buttons for SLShare are available, to do this go to me or avatar (depending upon with viewer you’re using) and then toolbar buttons :

SLShare4

Then the toolbar buttons show up and you can drag and drop these onto your toolbars in the viewer. Hopefully, if you squint you can see there are buttons for Facebook, Flickr and Twitter.

SLShare5

Note that my buttons for Facebook, Flickr and Twitter are dull, that’s because they are already on my toolbar.

Linden Lab’s New Virtual World Is Codenamed Project Sansar

There have been plenty of rumours about the name of Linden Lab’s nextgen virtual world. Inara Pey recently asked : Is SANSAR the name of the Lab’s new virtual experiences platform? The answer, as an eagle eyed Marianne McCann noticed is, pretty much yes.

Rumours had been around for a while, as Inara Pey noted :

For the last several days, speculation has been circulating on whether the name SANSAR might be the name of the Lab’s new next generation platform for virtual experiences.

Speculation first came via a post made to the SL Universe forums, and has since appeared on both the Profile feeds and forums, relating to trademarks filed by the Lab on April 10th, 2015, namely:

In addition, in October 2014, Ascio Technologies, Inc., filed a domain name registration for projectsansar.com listing Linden Research as the Domain Administrator.

Now Linden Lab have revealed that this is indeed true, that the nextgen virtual world does indeed have a codename of Project Sansar.

Britannia Village Gears Up For UK General Election

Ship Ahoy

On the outside Britannia Village looks like a quaint British village. The river, the boat, the pub. However beneath the surface, and above the surface actually, there’s something else lurking.

Britannia Village is also gearing up for this week’s UK General Election, and there’s a distinct Vote Labour feeling to their political persuasion.

Discussing Politics

Whilst wandering around I discussed the forthcoming election with a protest Gnome. Holding a Vote Labour placard he told me to beware Tory supporters who may be lurking in the strangest of guises.

Fantasy Faire 2015 – Over US$30,000 Raised For Relay For Life

Spires Of Andolys

The Fairelands of Fantasy Faire 2015 will soon disappear as if by magic. All the events are over, the vendors have been packing up and we’ve all been going home. The event was of course part of the Relay For Life fundraising effort in Second Life, for the American Cancer Society. In terms of that fundraising effort Fantasy Faire 2015 has so far raised L$ 7,627,066, which amounts to a very impressive US$ 30,508. This is a record breaking effort so thank you to everyone who contributed to and promoted this fundraising.

Trapped!

The event overall saw a mixture of the weird and the wonderful. The old and the new. In terms of new events, both the literary festival and dance and particle shows have been hailed as a success and are likely to return for future Fantasy Faires if possible.

LitFest Audience

A number of traditional events also took place. Roleplaying, which is of course an important element of Fantasy in Second Life was well represented at The Faire as three groups played out storylines, as explained by The Sunday Daily Recap on the Fantasy Faire website :

The roleplay groups have also concluded their storylines: NeoVictorians have safely traveled home, the Trial of Lut challenged the Sanctuary RP Community with a surprise ending and yesterday The Rickety Weasels finally managed to save Poppetsborough after freeing the Paper Wizard and returning light to the beloved popup book world.

On top of that there were more traditional themes such as DJ’s, live acts, Jail and Bail and Auctions.
