Emily Short’s Next Versu Adventure – Blood And Laurels

Emily Short’s next Versu title will be Blood And Laurels, set in ancient Rome :

Cults. Conspiracies. Poison. Stabbing. Blackmail. Seduction. Prophecies and rumors. Divine wrath — or possibly just bad weather.

Death and glory in ancient Rome. Built on the Versu engine, coming soon to the iPad.

One day it will be coming soon to an android device … one hopes! There are already six Versu titles available for the IPad, the new title will be number seven. Those who attended the recent Oxford/London meetup may have already seen Blood and Laurels in action.

I love the concept of interactive fiction, but I’m yet to be wowed by it. I do believe there’s a lot of potential there for people to get creative and have fun.

We’re still awaiting the stage where Versu let’s people create their own fiction, so far the only titles produced have been from Emily Short and Deirdra Kiai. There is a closed beta on the creation side, but the conversation has been very slow regarding that.

Versu no longer requires people to be connected to the internet to use it, which will be a relief for those who hate such systems. I think this is an important step for a mobile app.

Versu seems to get decent feedback from those who use it and had some good reviews when it launched last year, USA Today suggested it could be a big thing. However we don’t really hear a lot about Versu, which is a shame in many ways but with a new title on the horizon, it seems that Versu certainly hasn’t been shelved.
