Linden Lab’s empire grows by the day, as they announce they’ve acquired the iPad game Blocksworld, the full press release can be read here. I may follow suit and issue a press release everytime I buy a new game … oh wait they haven’t just purchased the game to play in the Lab, they’ve purchased the whole kit and caboodle along with plans to globally release the game!
Rod Humble is quoted in the press release as saying: “Blocksworld is a great fit with what we do at Linden Lab, It’s a very user-friendly complement to our portfolio of shared creative spaces. We’re happy to have the Blocksworld team join Linden Lab and are looking forward to bringing Blocksworld to the App Store worldwide soon!”
I’m really pleased to see Rod Humble speaking, I wondered where the bloody hell he’d gone! I did wonder if he was in hiding due to the nightmare season Aston Villa are having. Anyway, the next question is, what the bloody hell is Blocksworld? This is a genuine question as I’ve never heard of it!
The blurb on the website suggests it’s a mixture of Lego and Minecraft, I haven’t played with Lego in eons and I’ve never played Minecraft, so I’m none the wiser but it looks like a sort of building blocks, rearrange them, creative type of thing, which does fit in with some of the products Linden Lab are getting involved with.
Many people have been critical of Rod Humble lately when it comes to his silence on Second Life and whereas I do share those concerns, I do think he’s continuing to move Linden Lab forward, as I’ve said before, I hope this doesn’t end up with Second Life being left behind, but making Linden Lab a name that is known for more than Second Life, is certainly good for Linden Lab and Rod Humble and his team do deserve credit for that, even though my primary concern is Second Life. I’m also still keeping one eye on the forthcoming Versu, but no more news on that yet!
I do want Linden Lab to talk more about Second Life, I think regular communications are long overdue, but I’m also happy to see Linden Lab expand, I hope this works out well for them.
