I saw the above advert for Second Life last night, it says “Explore The Gothic Scene<\/em>“, which straight away made me think of Marsha Warwillow and SL Goth Magazine<\/a>. The magazine is as you would expect, largely about gothic culture in Second Life :<\/p>\n

slGoth Magazine is an independent showcase of gothic Second Life residents, places, philosophy, fashion, entertainment and events. The articles are written by resident avatars and cover a variety of topics in the gothic community. It is published monthly in-world and is a wearable HUD which supplies landmarks and gifts from sponsors.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I interviewed Marsha back in January, the interview came in two parts, part one<\/a> and unsurprisingly, part two<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the interview I discovered that SL Goth magazine had been launched in 2009 and was active until 2010. Then it took a break until 2014 and was relaunched with a H.P. Lovecraft special and has been going ever since. This is relevant because a H.P. Lovecraft festival is coming our way in Second Life in August.<\/p>\n

This year marks H.P. Lovecraft\u2019s 125th Birthday! Come celebrate this August at the 2015 LoveFest in Second Life. Are you a designer and would like to have a booth? Portions of proceeds go toward the charity AutCom \u2013 Autism National Committee<\/a>. slGoth will be making a Special issue again this year and we look forward to seeing you there.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Unsurprisingly, The H.P. Lovecraft website has links to Innsmouth in Second Life, which is a wondeful region that has been battling against closure. Innsmouth is still there.<\/p>\n

I’ll post more about the H.P. Lovecraft festival when I get more news, I’m also hoping to catch up with Marsha Warwillow at the festival, it should be fun.<\/p>\n

Why was this New England coastal town abandoned in the 1930s? Perhaps the giant sea-monster emerging from the south ocean might be the answer. Nevertheless, Innsmouth remains a dark, damp place with perpetual rain and ruined buildings well worth exploring.<\/p>\n
