I’m back from the Med and a fortnight seems an awfully long time to be away when you try and catch up with news and developments in the virtual world and beyond. A fortnight also provides insight into one of the reasons why Second Life can be an annoying name, there are tons of news stories about Second Life, but they are largely about the Second Life of a product or a show, such as The Mindy Project.<\/p>\n

However, fortunately for me, Xiola Linden and the Linden Lab community team do a good job of updating the Second Life Blog<\/a> with Destination Guide information, hence why I will at some point in the near future be heading on out to visit\u00a0The Kingdoms of Giliath<\/a>, an ambitious looking immersive roleplay kingdom in Second Life.<\/p>\n

One of the things I’ve decided you can’t really do when you return from a fortnight away, is to try and catch up with everything, however a few other things have caught my eye.<\/p>\n

Inara Pey has blogged about\u00a0Art and Obedience in Berlin and Second Life<\/a>. This is with relation to a mixed-media installation at\u00a0J\u00fcdisches Museum<\/a>, Berlin, as Inara explains :<\/p>\n

Obedience is a new, mixed-media installation at the J\u00fcdisches Museum, Berlin, created by Saskia Boddeke (Rose Borchovski in Second Life) and Peter Greenaway, which has an interesting cross-over with our virtual world.<\/em><\/p>\n

The installation takes as its theme the story of Abraham and Isaac; a story which raises questions which are addressed differently by the three major religions \u2013 Jewish, Islamic and Christian \u2013 in which it can be found.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The crossover in Second Life is described by Inara as :<\/p>\n

The cross-over with Second Life comes via a special installation created by Bryn Oh and Jo Ellesmere at LEA 1, also entitled Obedience<\/a>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There’s a lot more about this in Inara’s post and I heartily suggest people read all the information there as this looks like a fascinating project. Hopefully I’ll find time to visit this in the near future.<\/p>\n

Another thing that caught my eye was news of Linden Lab sponsoring a two day music fest<\/a> for Second Life’s twelfth birthday celebrations :<\/p>\n

Second Life is turning 12 this June, and we\u2019re planning a few extra special ways to help commemorate a dozen amazing years with our Residents! You\u2019ll have to stay tuned to this blog and our social media pages for all the exciting things as they roll out, but today we\u2019re announcing auditions for \u2026 (drum roll, please) \u2026 the Second Life Music Fest – sponsored by Linden Lab – a two day music-extravaganza inworld to celebrate!<\/em><\/p>\n

Second Life is full of talented musicians, and we\u2019re hoping to draw out all you guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, tambourine shakers and other music makers to come audition for the festival. All genres are welcome!<\/em><\/p>\n

The Second Life Music Fest is an opportunity to perform at one of the biggest celebrations in Second Life, and it\u2019s a paid gig!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Unfortunately the deadline for submissions is over, so I hope all the aspiring musicians were able to audition for this event, this is definitely something I’ll be looking forward to.<\/p>\n
