Metareality Podcast Makes Stealthy Return

Metareality Podcast has returned to the airwaves … well it returned in March but I’ve only just noticed! The third episode in the return was released on April 11th. The good news here is that now we can get an Anchorman style fight between Metareality Podcast and The Drax Files, although as Metareality Podcast has a three person team they won’t be allowed to use William Reed Seal-Foss whom I strongly suspect is really Dr Octopus, which would make the fight unfair anyway!

Also they possibly should do transfers between the presenters. Drax has been on Metareality before, so maybe Jo Yardley could go on Metareality and Qarl could do a guest spot on The Drax Files. Reed would have to stay on Metareality, as I’ve already explained, being Dr Octopus comes with complications.

There’s certainly room in the market for both of these podcasts, particularly as they cover different subjects, obviously they also cover similar subjects but the styles of the two shows are different enough to mean that listening to them both covers enough different ground for them to be worthwhile.

One of the interesting discussions in the latest Metareality podcast is a discussion about the character creation in Black Dragon Online :

This does look quite interesting and character creation is an issue for virtual worlds, but I’ve always found too much choice to be a pain too, sometimes you just want to get on with it.

The Herald Of A New Podcast

A few of the more dynamic, entertaining, gruesome and informative sites regarding Second Life seem to have fallen into a sort of slump of late. The excellent Gwyneth Llewellyn seems to have gone into hibernation for the winter, or maybe Gwyn’s just too excited about Cristiano Ronaldo’s exploits for Portugal.

The Alphaville Herald, which was apparently big in Japan around 1984, remains largely unbalanced but has largely left the virtual world of Second Life in its reporting and seems more interested in hackers, the NSA and the rather bizarre spectacle of Pixeleen Mistral interviewing Mark McCahill, actually that’s a really good read. The Herald has always had a bit of an unfair rap because of the vicious nature of some of its posts and comments below the post, but they have also covered a lot of important issues and the NSA issues are important.

MetaReality Podcast has been on vacation but has returned this very evening with an episode full of discussion, giggles and profanity … Gianna seems to have lost the bleep machine. However quite a large chunk of the content is unrelated to Second Life and the three people involved sound a little jaded by Second Life, well Qarl has had enough after the TOS debacle but Gianna sounds pretty fed up too, even more so than before. There’s still plenty of interesting content in the podcast, but they seem to be drifting.

MetaReality Podcast – More Words Less Bleeps Please

The latest edition of MetaReality Podcast – The Return Of The Reed has some interesting discussion, which you’ll find between the bleeps and even then the bleeps don’t always hit their target! This episode is a good one because the discussion goes beyond Second Life and into other areas, such as the recent launch of Sim City and and DRM in games and yet it comes back to Second Life even with subjects like that, by pointing out the unfortunate realities behind content theft, which mean that some measures to try and stop content theft can also be a massive pain in the backside for end users and ultimately self defeating.

This episode features of course, the return of William Reed Seal-Foss and boy can he swear. He mentions at one point that he only played Diablo III for about fifteen minutes because of the DRM issues, it’s a good job he wasn’t a victim of the digital download fiasco, I had to kill The Skeleton King for days because progress was halted there for people who purchased the digital download. This was another security issue type thing and yes it annoyed plenty of folk.

However if you do follow the link to the episode, the bleeps to cover profanity are off the scale, all of them are at it, that’s Qarl, Draxtor and even Gianna too! This is a shame because there’s really no need for that level of profanity in one episode, there’s enough to fill ten episodes in this one episode.
