Fantasy Faire 2013 – Thank You Fantasy Faire From American Cancer Society

Fantasy Faire is still running, but a group notice has been sent with a thank you letter from The American Cancer Society, details below.

Faireland Relayers,

While I watch the tremendous success of the Fantasy Faire, I feel compelled to write a personal note of congratulations and thank you to the people who organize this wonderful event every year. Since Fantasy Faire began, you all have worked to raise almost $100,000 USD for the American Cancer Society and you should be proud of your efforts.

I, and the American Cancer Society appreciate everyone who has donated their time, talent, and Lindens throughout all the years, and this year is no exception. This year, I have seen some of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in Second Life. I have heard from countless others who share the same sense of wonder and amazement. In fact, I can quote one friend who said, “I’ve never seen anything like this in Second Life.” And that’s from someone who is in Second Life every day, and has been for many years.

RELAY FOR LIFE KICKOFF

The 2013 Relay For Life of Second Life season is ready to launch. On Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 10am SLT, the Relay For Life Kickoff Celebration will be held on 4 special “kickoff” regions bordering the American Cancer Society Island.

More than 107 teams have pre-registered to participate in this year’s Relay For Life fundraising season in Second Life, but there is plenty of room for more. Anyone who has registered, or is interested in registering a team is encouraged to attend the Kickoff Celebration to learn more about this year’s Relay For Life season. If you are interested in learning more, contact Gem Sunkiller inworld, or you can join the Relay For Life Volunteers Group, or you can visit   Relay For Life of Second Life.

The 2013 Relay For Life of Second Life theme matches that of the American Cancer Society’s 2013 campaign: Celebrating 100 Years of Hope.

“2013 marks the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society. Our teams voted last year to use this as an opportunity to align with the organization to celebrate the many successes that we’ve had over the last 100 years of fighting cancer…and to re-commit ourselves to doing as much as we can to finish the fight,” says Stingray Raymaker, American Cancer Society Manager of Digital Platforms. Third Second Life Science Fiction Faire Is Open

scifi3

I’m not big on the Science Fiction scene in Second Life, indeed most of what I read is to do with copyright issues, such as Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek. However there is a thriving roleplaying scene for Science Fiction in Second Life and to exemplify this, we have the third Science Fiction Faire, which is open now. Like some of the other and arguably better known faires in Second Life, the Science Fiction faire is also a charity event, associated with the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life. The region being used for the faire actually neighbours the ACS main Island.

Fantasy Faire 2012 – Call For Bloggers

Fantasy Faire 2012

Fantasy Faire 2012, has issued a call for bloggers, which you can read here. There are some terms and conditions associated with this, you need to have been blogging for at least two months and update your blog once a week to be accepted. I’m not totally happy with restrictions like this but I imagine it’s because you can be assigned to sims and merchants, if you’re not a regular blogger you may not realise what this entails and how time consuming it can be. However I’d rather they didn’t have the restrictions, but they do, there is some logic in this when it comes to being assigned to a sim or store.

If you are assigned to a store, you will need to write about at least one item from each store you’re assigned to. This means you will need to be pretty sure you can meet these goals because if you’re assigned to a store and can’t blog, then that means someone else won’t be blogging about it either. However if the idea of being assigned to sims and stores is unappealing, you can still apply to blog about Fantasy Faire 2012 in general, you will get sneak previews if you go either route so if you think general blogging is better, go that route, if you do like the sound of it fill in the online form on the site I linked to above.
