The Fairelands are stirring, spring is in the air, there’s magic everywhere. Fantasy Faire 2015 in Second Life is coming to town.
Last year Fantasy Faire raised L$5,955,893 ($ 23,824) for Relay For Life. I’ll start this year’s coverage with the press release, which will be under the cut. The usual caveats apply here, if you’re already under the cut you might not see the cut!
The 2015 Second Life Science Fiction Convention officially launched earlier this evening and there were no glitches. As a Dwarfin this was unchartered territory for me as I boldly went where no Dwarfin has gone before, to experience space, the final frontier.
The convention, which is part of the Second Life Relay For Life fundraising effort for The American Cancer Society spans six intergalactic sims, the links are the SLURL’s :
The event opened with an opening ceremony at Merciless Ming’s, which is based in Fhloston Paradise, but don’t worry if you missed it, there’s more entertainment planned for today.
Set your phasers to stun. Be prepared to go where no man has boldly gone before, well with the exception or the organisers, the builders, The Lindens and maybe some others. However besides them, the big news is that the 2015 Science Fiction Convention in Second Life opens tomorrow.
The event is part of the Relay For Life fundraising in Second Life effort on behalf of The American Cancer Society and as with many events there will be vendors, events and much more.
The event will be running February 20th Thru March 1st and features six sims :
Pern Sound Source: Pern – Planet, with dragons. And, Anne McCaffrey
Magrathea Source: Douglas Adams Magrathea will build planets specifically tailored for you. Want a planet made out of solid gold? What about one where everything’s made of jello? The pebbles on the beaches are all precious jewels?
Risa Source: The pleasure planet mentioned or featured in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In particular it was featured in the episode ʺCaptain’s Holidayʺ.
Fhloston Paradise Source: Fhloston Paradise was the name of the resort hotel/ship where Corbin Dallas/Leeloo went in 5th Element and got to see the Diva sing
New Vegas Source: Babylon 5, The Mars city New Vegas is very heavily implied to be such a place, right down to the name
Sihnon Source: In the TV series Firefly Sihnon is where Inara was taught the skills to become a Companion.
Ok first of all a disclaimer, I’m not an organiser of Fantasy Faire 2014, so my information may be out of date! However as it stands, there are no opportunities left for sim sponsors, but there may well be opportunities for event sponsors.
Cerridwen’s Cauldron, Creators of Fantasy, Dwarfins, Fallen Gods Inc., Fuubutsu-Dou, The Looking Glass, NeoVictoria, Roawenwood and Solarium. The event sponsors are Curious Kitties, Dark Goddess Designs, Epic, .Luminary., L’Uomo and Spyralle.
So what about creator spots? Well, back on March 15th Sonya Marmurek blogged : CREATOR APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! In that post Sonya links to the actual creator/Event Sponsor application form, which is a most important document to read as it details the costs and rules for participation.
we do still have some limited space for creators of fantasy and steampunk. Yes, steampunk! We have several steampunk sims this year, so don’t think it’s only about magic and fairies here!
At this point I tried to hit Sonya with a curse of agony, steampunk in fantasy land! Pah! … Oh wait, this isn’t new for Fantasy Faire at all … hmm I better cancel that curse of agony.
I am miles behind with my coverage of Fantasy Faire 2014, Sonya Murmarek and the team are way ahead of me! For those who are not familiar with Fantasy Faire in Second Life, I advise you to take your time to make yourself familiar with it. On a scale of 1 – 10, with 1 being pretty damn rubbish and 10 being awesome, Fantasy Faire rates as an 11! My favourite Second Life event by a country mile.
So in the next few posts I’ll start catching up with the news so far, hopefully I’m not out of date with the news, from what I can see there are still openings for merchants who want to participate.
