Will Estate Prices Rise Again?

The estate price arguments rumble on. It’s hosting/no it’s not, “Oh yes it is”, “Oh no it isn’t”

Amongst the angst and the moaning, amongst the gloating and the jeering there are some points to consider, one of which is whether estate land will actually rise in price again.

I buy a lot of IT equipment in my day job. Prices have indeed dropped, although I’m not aware of such a rapid price drop on new equipment as Linden Lab have instigated it has indeed been dropping for quite a number of years. Continue reading “Will Estate Prices Rise Again?”

A Message To Business: Don’t Ignore Second Life

I attended the best Robin Linden office hour for quite some time this week. The discussion largely centred around the trademark policy. However bigger issues were forthcoming such as the grid, be it the Second Life we know and love (no really we love it) or the bigger Second Life grid of which the Second Life world is just a part.

Personally I think Second Life should be the world, ran on Second Life technology but the grid, the bigger beast, the all encompassing umbrella, should be the Linden Lab grid. What’s in a name? Perception and perception is everything. Business whom have read horror stories of being griefed by flying penises in Second Life, can incorporate their own little universe under the umbrella name and avoid the dirt of being associated with Second Life. You Say It Best When You Say Nothing At All

I went to Jack Linden’s office hour tonight, alas Jack didn’t. My theory was that a cabal of evil land barons had kidnapped him. They’d stashed him underground on a granite sim and were sending a ransom note along with cuttings of his hair to Robin Linden. The ransom note detailed many demands that needed to be met before Jack would be released, complete with a sound gesture of evil cackling laughter.

However it was nothing so exciting, Jack simply couldn’t make the meeting and was blogging about the delay to the launch of the new land store. Now nobody promised the land store would definitely be working, but now the launch date seems more vague.

However I don’t quite understand why this means people have to order an island at the old price until the land store is ready. The new land store is responsible for cutting costs by $675 an island? Really? What sort of uber technology device are these guys using? I’m hoping people who order at the old price via concierge are going to get a refund, surely they are, right? Utilising Inworld Mainland Services To Save Yourself Money

This post is with regards to mainland only, more pointedly mainland tier and methods of how to either lower your costs or earn a few Linden dollars from your spare tier. The subject matter here will not apply if you’re using estate land. I am not affiliated in any way, shape or form with the business names mentioned in this post and use them merely as examples.

Always ensure when buying land that you keep an eye on the message that informs you what your tier level will be after the purchase. If you intend to buy land for a group but instead buy it for yourself, you could quite easily find yourself in LL’s next tier bracket and you really don’t want to do that, especially if your group has the tier available to buy that land already. Do We Expect Too Much From Linden Lab?

I don’t think I’ve ever felt that the relationship between Linden Lab and their customers has been so tense. Of course I’ve only been here for just over a year and the veterans tell me that there were times when matters were much worse. I’ve been here for gambling and banking bans and the VAT debacle and yet, there seems to be a greater strain now than I’ve ever experienced.

However we seem to have hit a series of issues whereby Linden Lab simply aren’t getting their vision for the platform across.

Land pricing – Several estate owners left scratching their heads and wondering what the hell is going on. Goalposts being moved, terms being redefined, business models being reshaped, it adds strain to the relationship between business and customer. When the next price change will arrive, is unknown. Questions aren’t answered, confidence is low. Continue reading “Do We Expect Too Much From Linden Lab?”
