What’s That Coming Over The Hill?

Art and Entertainment

The day had started in a rather odd fashion, I had awoken in the beautifully scenic setting of Dawn’s Promise to find a mysterious note on my bedside table that simply said “Tolkien Day“.

Foxes

Somewhat puzzled I wandered outside and found some foxes, keeping a close eye on them, the largest one sniffed me and said “Dwarfins now, Elves, Wizards, Hobbits, Humans, what is going on?”

More than a tad alarmed and wondering how much mead I had actually drunk last night if talking foxes were on the scene I shrugged my shoulders.

“Tolkien Day” implored the fox.

Fantasy Faire 2017 – Survivors and Caregivers Centre

Outside Survivors & Caregivers Centre

I would like to take a small brief pause away from the magnificent and magical fantastical world of Fantasy Faire 2017 to point people in the direction of The Survivors and Caregivers Centre in Kakushi Pasu.

The centre is a quiet, but important part of Fantasy Faire where you can find some information about Relay For Life’s support network for cancer survivors and caregivers.

Fantasy Faire 2017 – An Unexpected Find

Tolkien Day Poster

I have found myself in many a perilous situation at this year’s Fantasy Faire, escaping contagions in San Mora, escaping Elves in Kakushi Pasu and escaping Inara Pey in Fairelands Junction.

Feasting

I have done far too much escaping and not enough finding, especially the finding of mead. Today I embarked on an epic adventure that took me to The Hill.

Fireworks

The Hill is the sort of peaceful, scenic location that seems as if it would be home to Halflings, the sort of location where you could imagine thirteen Dwarves and a Wizard entering the home of an unexpectant Halfling burglar to embark on an epic journey where we go there and back again, well some of us get back anyway.

This is also a place where you might find fireworks, food for a feast, and more importantly, mead.

Double 2017 Hugo Award Nominee Seanan McGuire Scheduled To Appear At Fantasy Faire Today

Seanan McGuire Books

Seanan Mcguire, who seems to have an issue with Bald Eagles crashing into her bedroom window is scheduled to appear at Fantasy Faire 2017 between 1-3pm SLT today.

The blurb for the event tells us :

Seanan McGuire will be talking about her writing, her characters and other things. This may include cats.

This may involve bald eagles too. I’m not making this up!

Literary Festival Stage

Seanan has been nominated for the two Hugo Awards this year, Best Novella for Every Heart a Doorway (Tor.com publishing) and Best Series for The October Daye Books (DAW / Corsair).

Fantasy Faire 2017 – Roleplay

Anansi

This year’s Fantasy Faire has representations from six roleplay groups, with varied themes.

The NeoVictoria Project have a dark circus roleplay going on. Anansi, where most of the roleplay takes place certainly has a theme that makes me think Papa Lazarou is going to turn up at any second.

Mudrana Frog

The Lilipods of Mudrana are sounding a bit too Elvish for my liking, they enjoy song and frolicking apparently :

The Lilypods of Mudrana live in the Land of the Lilypad providing music, song, and mischief in praise to the godfrog. Legends tell that should the godfrog falls asleep, the pond will dry out, and everything in the land would perish. The Lilypods provide instruments and entertainment to aid the frogs of Mudrana that croak and sing to preserve their world from death.
