World Goth Fair In Second Life Runs Until June 1st

SL Goth Headstone

Sometimes, when in Second Life, you may well be looking for all the fun of the fair but with a darker theme and that’s exactly what you’ll find if you visit The World Goth Fair, which opened on May 15th and runs until June 1st.

There are a few things to note about World Goth Fair in Second Life, one of them is that this is not a charity event and the organisers point this out clearly :

World Goth Fair is an annual Second Life event, officially sanctioned by the folks at World Goth Day. Although it used to be a charity event, it isn’t anymore. If you want to know why that change was made, please read this post.

The linked post isn’t by me, but it explains why this event is not a charity event. I should also point out that World Goth Day was on Friday 22nd May 2015, but as I was on holiday at the time, I didn’t blog about it.

Dark Landing Point

World Goth Fair is held on The Cursed Sim and it’s adult rated. The usual caveats that I often apply to adult sims apply here. I have visited the region and I’ve also visited other events that the people behind World Goth Fair organised in their lands. I have never, ever witnessed anything remotely adult on any of my visits. This isn’t to say that you won’t bump into something adult, but the adult rating here does not reflect that this is a sim that encourages overly adult activities.

The organisers of World Goth Fair are Axi Kurmin, Lokii Violet, Sonya Marmurek, Nephilaine Protaganist, Synjari Myriam, Sohma Dix and CruelBritannia, collectively they are The Cursed Events Team and they organise quite a lot of events during the year. There’s a lot more about the event on the about page of the World Goth Fair blog.

World Goth Fair

As with a lot of events in Second Life there is a large contingent of merchants and sponsors, whom you can read about here. There are some names that are familiar to me in that list, such as Gothika, Fallen Gods Inc., House Of Rain and many more of whom I’m not so familiar. This is largely because I don’t encounter as many merchants in Second Life these days as I once did.

The Drax Files Episode 29 – InSilico

The Drax Files

Episode 29 of The Drax Files World Makers takes us to the dystopian cyberpunk world of InSilico. The storyline on InSilico takes place in the 25th century, although it should be pointed out that Buck Rogers isn’t involved.

Insilico2

This is an absolutely fascinating episode because in five minutes it packs in so much about the disparate parts of Second Life that make up the whole. Here we learn about people who are storytellers, scripters, builders, landlords, tenants, roleplayers, photographers, bloggers, the curious and more all converging on this dystopian landscape.

Insilico3

We get to hear how the story of InSilico evolves every day, something which a virtual world environment allows. This is the power of user created content and in particular here, user created storytelling. This is an area oft overlooked when people talk about user created content. People think of clothing, buildings, scripts but storytelling can very much be user generated content too.

Fantasy Faire 2015 – Applications For DJ’s, Storytellers And Poets Now Open

Banner Should Be Here
Fantasy Faire 2015

Fantasy Faire 2015 is about more than gorgeous buildings and magical items, it’s also about entertainment, music, storytelling, poetry and bringing magic to the virtual world of Second Life, as well of course as being an excellent participant in the Relay For Life fundraising effort in Second Life.

Last year Fantasy Faire raised 5,955,893 Linden Dollars ($ 23,824) for Relay For Life and part of the reason that so much money is raised is thanks to those who entertain us, which is why they are now looking for DJ’s, Storytellers and poets to help with this year’s event.

Please note that despite my enthusiasm, I am not part of the organisational team, so please don’t send your applications to me! Follow the links guys and girls, follow the links.

In terms of DJ’s, The Fantasy Faire team are Searching For Song Spinners :

Jordan Reyne’s Fantastic Sound Rocks The Mango Yacht Club In Second Life

Jordan Reyne Stage

Jordan Reyne this evening rocked the Mango Yacht Club in Second Life with her unique sound. The good news is that Jordan is scheduled to rock Second Life even further this weekend with more gigs before going on a real world music tour in Europe.

Jordan Reyne On Guitar

Jordan belted out several tunes to an eager audience and allowed them to vote on which cover song she should perform, there was only one cover song in her set, the rest of the set was original material from Jordan herself.

Jordan doesn’t just stand there and play music either, she interacts with her audience, which was very well exemplified by the above vote on which cover song she should perform.

Second Life Residents Start To Pay Their Respects To Sir Terry Pratchett

Terry's Avatar

One of the first things I did when I joined Second Life was to look up a group for Discworld, thinking that Second Life would be an ideal venue for such a group. Alas that didn’t go very far, despite there being many fans and surnames of Weatherwax and Morpork not being uncommon.

In October 2008 Terry Pratchett visited Second Life. The visit was to promote his book of Nation, but many people wanted to talk about Discworld. A couple of Lindens sneaked in to listen to him, he arrived on stage :

TerryPratchett Morpork: Hello everybody! Sorry, I’m new at all of this kind of stuff and so can anyone tell me how to get the rocket launcher? …and I’m not really into all of this YourTube into MyFace kind of stuff!

Michaelx Beerbaum: Question is if Second life will appear in one of the books?

TerryPratchett Morpork: As far as I am concerned, my books are Second Life.

Having thought long and hard, a quiet voice piped up :

Ciaran Laval: Do you think Moist Von Lipwig would have managed the banking system better than those currently in charge?

TerryPratchett Morpork: It seems that, primitive as it is, the Discworld economy is considerably more stable than the one here. And, come to think about it, Moist’s solution to the problem was not a long way from what has been done over here…

He was talking about real world economies not Second Life. Upon hearing of Sir Terry’s death today I decided to visit a location where fans do gather, the Time and Space sim and already they have start to erect a tribute to Sir Terry Pratchett.

Tribute To Sir Terry Pratchett

They are also getting plenty of visitors, whom like me, want to visit locations whereby fellow fans may be around.
