Plenty Of Leagues Under The Sea

Sea Scenery

Now you might think that the under the sea expo is all about mermaids, well it’s not, I mean there are mermaids….

More Mermaids

Not all of them are in glass tubes either, some are in settings that leave you expecting a man to start shouting “Roll up roll up” and invite you to a circus show due to their Steampunk surroundings:

Steampunk Mermaids

However there’s more to the sea than Mermaids, although I must admit I’m a tad disappointed that during my travels at the expo I haven’t seen a Hydra or heard anyone shout “Unleash The Kraken!” there are many wonderful sights under the sea, including flora, fish and some underwater giant Kittycats!

SL10B Should Be Extended

Sl10B is a big event, 22 sims worth to be precise. There’s so much to see and do, the agenda is:

June 16 Grand Opening

June 23 Official Birthday

June 23 Final day of performances

June 29 Sims close to the public

July 1 All builds to be dismantled – sims go offline

Now a really decent community birthday gift from Linden Lab would be to allow the exhibits to stay in place for a month or two, because that would give people plenty of time to get around. I don’t know exactly what the arrangement is between Linden Lab and the organisers but the community website tells us:

The SL10B Community Celebration is Second Life’s 10th anniversary resident-run gala celebration, and it happens from June 16 at noon slt to June 29. This year, we have 22 sims cram-packed with art, exhibitions, information, and events.

BBC Ask – Whatever Happened To Second Life?

I had to do a double take when I saw Ewan Took’s post over at SLUniverse: “BBC asks “Whatever happened to Second Life?” Initially I thought it was a really old necropost because I’ve read an article along those lines on the BBC before: What happened to Second Life?

However no, this wasn’t the 2009 article I’d read before, this was a news story from today and why is Second Life being talked about today? Well because Second Life’s tenth birthday is making news, that’s why. The updated Second Life Tenth Birthday edition of “Whatever Happened To Second Life” can be viewed here.

The blurb:

Ten years ago, a social media website was launched which some corporations thought would change the face of business forever.

It was called Second Life – a virtual world where users could live, meet, go shopping or make music and art.

Multi-nationals like IBM rushed to be part of it and countries even opened embassies there.

But what has become of Second Life?

SL10B – The Bear Necessities Part 1

In this little mini series I’m taking my SL10B Avatar on a brief tour of some SL10B sims and highlighting, albeit very briefly, some spots. This doesn’t mean I don’t like the spots I don’t highlight, it’s just that there’s not enough hours in the day to do full justice to the event. We’ll start with Second Life In Black & White, Journey by Bear Silvershade.

SL in Black & White

The notecard tells us: “In this exhibition, you will see the work of SL artist Bear Silvershade, with examples of early work not long after he first rezzed in 2010 through his growing fascination with monochrome in 2012 to his current, ongoing “Journey of the Lonely Man” series.

Marianne McCann chimes in with a couple of exhibits on my travels, one is still going strong, but the other is alas not, it is in memory of Greenies Home:

In Memory Of Greenies

Greenies was once a must see sim, lots of impressive work there and a real fun place to visit.

Under The Sea Expo – Mermaid Pearls Hunt

An Image Should Be Here
Treasure Hunt

As I said in my last post, The Under The Sea Expo has a hunt and it involves Mermaids!  Now on with the details.

The Lost Pearls of Hanalei

 TEASER

Alina’s little sister Mishell thinks she’s been spending too much time in the Mermaid Palace and not enough time swimming in the sea where they live. To lure her out of the palace, she’s taken Alina’s favorite pearl necklace and hidden the pearls in some of her favorite underwater spots! Alina is busy preparing for a dance and she needs that necklace. Will you help her get it back?

INTRO

A beautiful mermaid flicks her tail in exasperation as she reads over a piece of paper.

“What was Mishell thinking? I need that necklace for the dance! But I don’t have time to play these games. I have to get ready!”

Spotting you out of the corner of her eye, she waves you over. “I need this necklace for the dance tonight. Please help me get it back.”

Before you can respond, she is already back to combing her hair. You look down at the piece of paper.
