The email is pretty much a copy of the blog post, minus the funky picture, well it does have the addition of a foreign language version:

Creating A Double Sided Object Giver

I’m going to go through a little bit of scripting here, caveats apply, I have a very basic understanding of LSL, this can almost certainly be done in a more efficient manner and you use this advice at your own risk! Now on with the show. Also the scripts I have examples of don’t fit the window, so you’ll need to use the scrollbars to see it all.

One of the simple scripted tools in Second Life is a notecard giver or a freebie object giver. These are useful and the script is simple, if you want to get funky and have reports from who touched your board then it gets a tad more complicated, but the basic functionality is a simple script:

default
{
state_entry()
{
}

touch_start(integer total_number)
{
llGiveInventory(llDetectedKey(0),llGetInventoryName(INVENTORY_OBJECT, 0));
}

}

That’s it, just put a prim with your freebie goodies inside the object giver prim and you’re good to go. However we can build slightly on this by using both sides of the object giver prim to give a different object, to do that we can use llDetectedTouchFace, which will, as the name implies, detect which face of your prim is touched.

So let’s start by creating a new prim and then creating a new script. To do this just go to the content tab of your prim and click create new script.

The Protest Gnomes Multiply During No Credit Protest

Protest Gnomes

So I arrive at my sim and pop in to The Dwarf Inn to check on my Dwarfins, but down a side alley to the tavern I find more protest Gnomes have appeared and it appears they aren’t happy …. with me!

Oi, you’ve been using our brothers in your blog posts, with no credit to JubJub” said one.

You can’t just use us like that” said another.

JubJub brings us to life and you don’t mention that some of us come with lanterns

Or scripted versions that people can edit the signs of

That too, so it’s about time you mentioned JubJub Forder’s house of fun in the sim of VoronezhIrkutsk

Reasonable prices, some of us are even free!

And don’t think those Dwarfins in the tavern will protect you from us

No, they’re too busy drinking mead and breeding

They seemed to find this most amusing and shook placards at me!

Oh and don’t forget to go and check out Hex’s post at SLUniverse

Oh yes” laughed a Gnome “Governor Linden Agrees: The Tier is too damn high“.

At this they cackled manically and then seemed to lose interest in me!

A Visit To Wasabi Pills

It’s all Jezebel Bailey’s fault, there I was happily mining with my Dwarfins when she told me I needed to go dancing. Now this meant I would need to scrub up a bit and find a human form. Fortunately I’ve recently discovered the joys of outfits, I mean in the last couple of weeks …. yes I know! Anyway, I found a mostly human outfit, a rather spiffy old outfit with a rapier just to be safe, now I just needed some hair and I found something called Dragon Mesh hair in my inventory. Then I went to find the protest Gnomes to give Jezebel Bailey what for, dancing indeed!

Hero And Gnomes

Wait wait wait! Where did I get this hair? I don’t remember buying Mesh Hair. This is where paying attention comes in handy, someone at Wasabi Pills had sent me some dragon hair for review ….. me? Review hair? Seriously I’m usually bald. However now I was in a quandry because, I liked the hair, it fit first time without piddling around for a start. So I thought I best go and visit this Wasabi Pills store to see what’s what.

Anyway Wasabi Pills hair store seems to be a converted Church and from the outside it all looks sweetness and light:

A Visit To Wasabi Pills

This impression wouldn’t last!

Roleplaying Sims And Rules

I sometimes see complaints about roleplaying sims and rules, the rules put visitors off. People aren’t familiar with terms such as OOC or IC or Get Out Of The Way. However there are often times when rules are there for a good reason, although sometimes they get TLDR.

So I found out the other day whilst taking some photographs on my own roleplaying sim when I was told off for dressing as a Dwarfin. I quickly headed back to find fellow protesters on another sim to march on the town hall about these rules.

Me And Gnomes

At this point my chief Elf slapped me and told me to behave, pointing out that there was no way I was going to be able to build a story arc that explained how my Evil Drow Wizard had turned into a mining Dwarf with an army of Gnomes! I had to admit, she had a point.
