Fantasy Faire 2015

Fantasy Faire 2015 is still a month away but I’m about to embark on three Fantasy Faire 2015 related posts. The first is with relation to the sims for Fantasy Faire 2015, which have this week been announced : Ten Shopping Sims Of Magic.

The sims are intended to be unique, but still part of the Fairelands as a whole. Some of the names of those who are involved with creating these sims are familiar to me and those who have attended previous Fantasy Faires.

Some of the names are of the wandering chief Elf variety, whom evil Drow Wizards may still be seeking.

Some of the names may be Dwarfin related superstars who paint a stunning landscape.

Together they make up the whole. The links take you to further details of each sim, including designers who will be displaying their wares on said sim and are subject to change as more designers are allocated their spots on sims for this year’s event. The list itself can also be found here : https://fantasyfairesl.wordpress.com/designers-2/

So let’s get to those details of the sims for this year’s event, with thanks to Sonya Marmurek for posting this information on the Fantasy Faire website.

Fashion For Life Now Open

FFL Tokyo

Regular readers of this blog will know that I’m not a fashionista, nor am I a fashionista’s son and I’m only blogging fashion until the fashionistas come. However the next week or so sees a large fashion event in Second Life, Fashion For Life.

FFL Paris

Fashion For Life is one of many events held within Second Life as part of the Relay For Life fundraising effort. This year’s event features some of the fashion hotspots outside of the virtual world, with sims based on Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Milan, New York, Paris and Tokyo.

FFL New York City

On top of this there are two sims dedicated to events and fashion shows. Central Park North is the entertainment venue and Central Park South is the fashion show venue.

An Imagae should be here
Fantasy Faire 2015 Poster

Inara Pey recently posted some interesting information regarding Fantasy Faire 2015 for creators : Fantasy Faire 2015 opens the doors for creator registrations. Inara’s post is fully of useful information.

Gwarda And The King

A blog post has also appeared on the official Fantasy Faire website and that contains useful information too :

The registrations for the creators wishing to take part in the Faire are happening right now. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Tinsley.

However what about the really juicy information, when will blogger applications be open? Well the official post tells us :

The applications for bloggers wishing to shapeshift and indulge in the possibilities of fantasy will open on March 23rd.

Wait wait wait, what do you mean, you don’t care about no stinking bloggers?

A View Of Lumenaria

Ok ok, the press release was in my previous blog post, but for those who don’t like information such as that, when will the event be taking place?

The portals will open on April 23rd, 2015 and close again on May 3rd, granting us eleven days of beauty, hope and a chance to relay that hope forward.

Hurrah!

Fantasy Faire 2015 – The Press Release

Dwarfins Bar Brawl

The Fairelands are stirring, spring is in the air, there’s magic everywhere. Fantasy Faire 2015 in Second Life is coming to town.

Last year Fantasy Faire raised L$5,955,893 ($ 23,824) for Relay For Life. I’ll start this year’s coverage with the press release, which will be under the cut. The usual caveats apply here, if you’re already under the cut you might not see the cut!

Science Fiction Author Elinor Caiman Sands Engages With SciFi Convention 2015 In Second Life

Inside Elinor Caiman Sands Exhibit

Authors outside the virtual world at times pay attention to the virtual world. Terry Pratchett visited once for a talk in a promotion of his book Nation. Science Fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson used to pop into Second Life for a talk or two, dressed as a coyote. I’ve talked, more than once, with Nara Malone who has formed community links with authors in Second Life and beyond into OpenSim, especially with projects such as The HyperGrid Stories Project.

Over the weekend whilst roaming around the Science Fiction Convention 2015 in Second Life I stumbled across the works of another author, UK based SciFi & Fantasy author Elinor Caiman Sands.

Elinor has a small exhibit in the Risa sim at the conference, featuring promotion of her books and some Second Life based artwork. Elinor is a fan of alligators, I’m not sure how many of them really exist in swamps in the UK, although legend has it that the UK was indeed once a very swampy land. However she does have experience of the British Labour party, so she should be used to people showing their teeth and trying to snap.

At the exhibition four of Elinor’s e-books are promoted :

  • Europa Spring
  • Elinor’s Little Book of Funny Critters
  • The Martian Ascent
  • Mouse About the House

These are all short stories and were published as Kindle editions in 2014.
