The Katt doesn’t get the cream
Katt Linden, AKA Miss Communication, is no more according to Massively. Tateru does have an inside track on matters such as this as they are in regular contact with the communication department.
This news has largely been greeted favourably but I’m going to buck that trend because I like Katt. There were of course major foot in mouth moments, I once told her; “I’m having serious sense of humour failure young lady” after one of her comments, probably surrounding the Openspace fiasco. However I do admire someone who is prepared to engage, and that’s what she did and if she ruffled feathers, so be it. I prefer that style to someone who avoids all the issues and doesn’t talk to anyone, or completely ignores the points at hand.
We have no idea why Katt is no longer in her job, we can speculate of course but that’s not always wise and if someone has lost their job in the current economic climate, they may have serious sense of humour failure. Losing your job is a bit more serious than losing two hundred bucks on an Openspace.
However it could be that Katt has moved onto pastures new, that she has found a better position, I’d like that to be the case. However Katt also gave the impression that she could be fesity, she could also be helpful.
I met Katt inworld once, under the sea in Bay City when it was just being developed, despite greeting her as “Miss Communication” she pointed me in the right direction to find the promised land, which then got awfully expensive and became the rich land.
When you’re involved in forum moderation and communication, you’re going to upset people. How you handle those tasks is important, some found Katt’s style overbearing, personally I found Katt to offer a more human touch. Admittedly I wasn’t on the other end of one of her warning im’s, but that being said, that also exemplifies that Katt wasn’t unreasonable, it’s not like I’m shy about putting forth my opinion.
I wish Katt all the best for the future and I hope she finds her career path to be fruitful, and if she wants to signup with a new account and be my inworld communication manager I’ll find her a position, alas the pay will not be quite what she was on at Linden Lab!
I respectfully disagree. While moderation of a public forum is certainly unpleasant at times, the banhammer and the delete button are the FINAL tools in a sysmod’s tool chest. But to Katt, they were the first, last and only tools she knew. Anything that was critical of LL’s policies, she simply claimed it was a “personal attack” and deleted it. Anyone who wouldn’t accept the situation and inject snarky comments into other threads - something I normally frown upon, though I accept there are exceptions - got warnings IN WORLD about things happening OUT OF WORLD. She would even take this to other forums that she couldn’t moderate, but would send “gentle warnings” to people criticizing anything LL did on other forums. If you spoke ill of LL anywhere, she would warn you that you faced banning inworld - it’s as simple as that.
She was either power-mad or didn’t have the faintest idea how to moderate a forum. She could be a saint in person; I could not care less at this moment. Her efforts to squelch dissent with velvet glove wrapped around a baseball bat make me glad that she’s gone. SL will be much better off without the Misistry of Truth running in the lab.
