Thanks For All The Magical Adventures Dwarfins Creators And Staff

Dwarfins

I remember the day well, I was walking around the Christmas Expo back in December 2012 when I stumbled across a store called Dwarfins. The store was full of, well, Dwarfins and I totally fell head over heels for these little creatures. Breedables were all the rage in Second Life and here was another one, but in such a fantasy form they turned my head.

This week the unfortunate news has been brought to my attention, Dwarfins will be closing this month. Judy Chestnut has announced :

We are sad to announce that Dwarfins is closing their doors.

For the past 3 1/2 years we have loved growing the Dwarfins game with all of you and we will miss you and the Dwarfins tremendously, but have found that we no longer have the time to put into their development that they deserve.

I have had many an adventure as a Dwarfin and will hopefully continue to have many more, despite the closure. I’ve been to bars.

Fantasy Faire 2015 – Arriving At The Spires Of Andolys And Finding Wand Wielding Dwarfins

Spires Of Andolys Portal

I set off on the epic journey from the land of Dwarfins to Fantasy Faire in Second Life with just a few belongings. I had been given some tips, don’t drink too much mead, eat properly, don’t talk to strangers .. too much and most of all, head for The Spires Of Andolys as a first port of call. Spires Of Andolys, I was reliably informed, was a Dwarfin friendly region.

Upon arrival at Fairelands Juction, by means of teleportation, I looked for the magic portal. There were several portals at the landing zone but the one I was looking for was easy to find, largely due to a bright sign decreeing that this was indeed the way to The Spires Of Andolys.

Spires Of Andolys Towers

After taking a step through the portal I arrived in a bright land, complete with a fairy tale looking castle and colourful buildings. I checked my notes, there were two points of interest, one being the mystery location of The Dwarfins and the other being a shop called Spires Of Andolys.

Spires Of Andolys Shop

I found the shop first. This was, I was reliably informed, the work of Jaimy Hancroft, who is a lead designer with The Dwarfins. This all sounded a bit human to me but I sat outside the shop and ate some breakfast hoping that Jaimy would appear and guide me in the right direction. Unfortunately Jaimy was busy elsehwere and therefore I was left to my own devices. I decided to continue my journey through the the streets of The Spires Of Andolys.

A Dwarfin Goes To The Isle Of View And Meets Xiola Linden

Addressing The High Council

Pensively I announced to The High Council Of Dwarfins that I had to embark on a perlious mission to The Isle Of View in Second Life.

Second Life?” pondered the woman sat next to me, “Is that still around?“. The females either side of me found this highly amusing, I just raised my eyebrows.

The mission is perilous“, I announced, “Love Is in the air, everywhere I look around, Love is in the air, every sight and every sound“.

The lady stood to my left groaned and said “Will you please stop singing that bloody song!“.

With that I left the hall.

Talking To Gwarda Rockbeard

Gwarda!” I shouted as I saw Gwarda Rockbeard, “I’m off on a Perilous mission to The Isle Of View in Second Life“.

Why?” asked Gwarda.

Love is in the air, In the whisper of the trees, Love is in the air, In the thunder of the sea“, I replied.

Gwarda frowned and went about her business.

Rehri Rockbeard And Me

I then spied Rehri Rockbeard and went to speak to him.

Don’t you dare bloody sing!” he told me, “Oh and be careful, I hear there are Lindens there“.

Drax Files Radio Show Episode 44 Features Interview With Dwarfins Legend Jaimy Hancroft

Dwarfins Welcome Area

Episode 44 of The Drax Files Radio Hour With Jo Yardley features an interview with a Belgian chef by the inworld name of Jaimy Hancroft. Jaimy is the owner of the Second Life brand Death Row Designs and also a creator for the fantastical Dwarfins team.

However what makes this interview interesting is just how much enthusiasm Jaimy has for Second Life. Jaimy talks about how she creates, how she enjoys Second Life herself and has great fun with games within Second Life such as The Cornfield and how she also finds the time to make appearances at events and help noobs out when they land in areas of Second Life that advertise themselves to noobs but probably aren’t noob friendly.

Inside Death Row Designs

In short Jaimy is some sort of RPG wonder woman who seems to be able to bend time and space. However Jaimy also makes some extremely interesting observations, one of which is with regards to the inworld shopping experience and how it’s getting a lift from the number of events that are on the grid these days.

Outside Death Row Designs

Jaimy points out that although she’s not a fan of the deadlines that events create, events themselves are a great way for creators to get exposure. This is interesting because the Second Life Marketplace has damaged the concept of inworld shopping but obviously not to such an extent as some of us may feel. Jaimy feels that over the last couple of years inworld shopping has improved for her store.
